UT105 Automobile multimeter At first sight UT105 multimeter produced by Uni-Trend have nothing special in comparison with its co-brothers in a line. It also can measure constant and alternating voltage. For this purpose it has 5 and 4 ranges with maximum limit of 1000 and 750 V correspondingly. It can measure resistance -- it has 6 ranges to 20 megohm. 2 ranges for current measurement -- 200 milliamperes and 2 amperes. A red test probe is connected to a corresponding connector for each mode. Diodes and transistor testing, circuit continuity check. By the way they are standard characteristics for most multimeters but what is special in model 105? As you see from its name it can be useful, first of all, for car enthusiasts and equipment repairers. Besides the above mentioned that is very important for a car electrician this model has also two more specialized functions. It can measure rotary speed of a crankshaft and dwell angle of ignition distributor switch. You can do it choosing a corresponding mode. RPM are rotations per minute or Dwell angle that is measured in degrees. Modes for these measurements are set in accordance with a number of cylinders in a car -- 4, 6, 8, Rotation frequency of basic shaft of an engine is measured connecting a multimeter to an ignition system of a car. After studying automobile instructions you can learn which of connectors or coil terminals are intended for it. Switch angle is checked with measuring time duration when a switch is disconnected under turning of a distributing shaft. This function is useful in service for cars without electronic ignition. What else? Testing of starting and charging system, testing of accumulator discharge level with dead engine, testing of an accumulator under load, of ignition and fuel systems, engine sensors, check of electric fuses, solenoid coil and electromagnetic switch. All these are a not full list of works for which a multimeter can be necessary. In general, this multimeter will be a rather powerful diagnostic device for do-it-yourselfers. What can we add in conclusion? A device is normally protected against overloads in all ranges. It has a protective cover and a base for convenience of work. As always it has Hold button for last measurements fixation. It has also a big screen for duplication of data about a mode and tips concerning connection of test probes to connectors under current measurement. Moreover, there are two crocodile ...

i use this multimeter on my VW Type 3, 1600. But it reads the RPM as too high. The ideal RPM should be 900RPM (90 on the display) but it reads as approx 400 (4000RPM) which you can tell is not the actual RPM of the engine. Any ideas why this might be?
