Tip 1 - close your game engine. Close Photoshop. Close your modeling software. Install a wiki somewhere and work on your GDD. Full stop. No other steps should be taken until you have something in your GDD.

Thanks for sharing these great tips especially tip#1 - this is the third time I am changing my first project. I am far away from my ultimate game, I already came to term with shrinking it to a prequel which is simple. Now I think I need to make an even smaller prequel for the prequel XD.. something maybe like your brilliant Saving Xmas game which btw I just got purely to support your lovely channel. Having said that, I couldn't resist the temptation to play it lol thanks

This format would be really usefull. Talking about making first steps (= projects) small and steady - make small successfull pieces to build a real thing. Nothing makes me feel so sad and demotivated as another abandoned directory on hard drive with unfinished project.
Another hard thing for me is how to keep focused on long run especially if you are in solo develompent. So short range goals must be a way out.

Thank you for this video. I have a project in mind but challenges are way too many. I'll need to rethink my GDD.

People should learn how to use some kind of source control like git, So if they can freely experiment within their project and if it all goes wrong they can just discard the changes or reset to an earlier commit.

When prototyping parts of the game, is there a way to merge project files, or do you sort og recreate the prototype in the Main game project? How do you bring it together in the end? 😊
