Mixed Income Housing: A Path to Affordability, Inclusivity and Financial Sustainability

Growing and enhancing the stock of affordable housing amidst the financial and operational constraints of pandemic is a challenge. Bold new thinking is required to build and maintain these properties in a sustainable way.

Mixed income housing, where tenants live alongside each other paying varying degrees of subsidized rent up to market rental rates, provides opportunities to address affordability, inclusivity and financial sustainability within affordable housing.

HomeEd discusses how the approach can be adopted within new property development, as well as existing operations. Current examples and audience questions are addressed.

About Edmonton (YEG) Housing Month:
Edmonton Housing Month is an annual event that aims to raise awareness of the various safe, affordable housing initiatives and sustainable strategies our city is, and has been, implementing towards our collective goal to end homelessness. This month of learning coincides with National Housing Day in Canada on November 22. Due to COVID-19 restrictions on large gatherings this year, we are hosting a virtual series of Lunch and Learn sessions.
