I've been working on a lore-accurate canonical edit of The Rings of Power. I just finished it a few hours ago. Sadly, the total runtime is 0:00:00

Agreed. I've seen 3 fan edits of THE HOBBIT, and the M4 edit was easily the best one.

The M4 Book Edit is THE version of The Hobbit. I've seen a few different edits over the years, they all were, while leagues better than the originals, still left me annoyed and disappointed because of just how much they still differed in very fundamental ways from the book. My favorite book. The Lord of the Rings just was handled masterfully, unlike The Hobbit in nearly every way. M4's edit does everything I needed and beyond for The Hobbit. The core reason being that the editor literally used the book through the entire process. I will always recommend and introduce new people to this edit. Thank you for highlighting it with this video!

Its the only fan edit that stands true to its purpose. I've download it few months ago, and i can say for sure that this edit can proudly stand next to the LOTR trilogy. For me, every year's Tolkien marathon starts with M4's Hobbit, then i go to Born of Hope and Hunt for Gollum - also exeptional fan films - then the LOTR trilogy and i close the marathon with the movie Tolkien. The Hobbit trilogy has too much fan service and awful moments. But it also has gems in it. What M4 did, was to keep these gems, improve them and finally delivers a faithfull one book-one movie version of the Hobbit. Also, its very easy to find and download it. Highly recommended!!

The M4 Hobbit Book Cut is my favorite fan edit! It is truly remarkable, and I hope more people watch it!

Thanks for pointing this out! I became quite bummed when I watched those bloated Hobbit films and I never wanted to rewatch them - but now I look forward to watching this version.

WB and Peter Jackson should do their own super cut of the trilogy and release it back into theatres. I think a 1 film cut would get a way better reception than the original trilogy got and would probably make them a good amount of money for what is just a recut.

These “writers” will never know true talent or simply when to kindly piss off. Annoying the fanbase is one thing, but producing something to mock Tolkien’s legacy is another.

So much fuss over films that were adapted from books, a thing that hard to do to begin with! I thought the films were okay I did think they could have done a better job by telling the story over two films instead of three. To be honest I'm grateful we got anything close to resembling the books at all actually.

Thanks for this. I'm going to check this out. My initial take on the Hobbit was one of a mix of boredom and horror. I've tried to revisit the trilogy but can't get through even one complete film.
I agree it was all the side characters and subplots that detracted from the film.
Having said that, all is forgiven regarding the Hobbit trilogy in light of the Rings of power.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I've watched a plethora of fan edits, and while they have have their positives, I'm still looking for one to really love. Maybe this one will be it! Excited to watch it. Thanks.

THANK YOU! i always knew fans would eventually edit them and we would have a perfect hobbit movie from that bloated mess. Too bad no amount of editing could ever make TROP into an actually good Second Age Tolkien series

I liked the PJ versions though. 😁
Although, according to amazon, I'm just a purist who hates every change, regardless of what the change is. Damn, why did nobody tell me 10 years ago?

Nice. I had such a hard time watching the hobbit films. Think I gave up in the end as I fell asleep so many times. Will definitely be checking this out.

I believe that the Hobbit films had problems, but I wouldn't classify them as bad, not least because the problems in the films were largely a result of circumstances, mainly extremely limited pre-production time and studio interference on Peter Jackson's and the production team creative freedom.

This is what I read from the tvtropes website on the troubled production of the Hobbit:

"When it finally came time to do the third film, the studio practically took the film away from Jackson and forced him to edit it in a way he didn't approve of and imposed tons of baggage onto film, demanding more emphasis on the love story and possibly more Alfrid scenes."

I don't think it's completely fair or even intellectually honest to put all The Hobbit problems on Peter Jackson's back, as many have done and still do, other things I've read about the production on the same website:

"Originally, the novel was to be adapted into two films, both directed by Guillermo del Toro and with Peter Jackson as co-writer and producer. The first problem emerged in 2008 when New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. refused to pay the Tolkien Estate the money that they owed them (including for The Lord of the Rings). What followed was two and a half years of everything spiraling out of control, not only sending the film into Development Hell but causing Guillermo del Toro to leave production after having been attached to it. To make matters worse, these legal issues got so bad that it would have taken the production out of New Zealand entirely. Only when Peter Jackson decided to come back to the director's chair in late 2009 was everything sorted out.

And then the studio only gave Jackson and Weta six months of pre-production and told him to start filming immediately afterwards or else. And before production could even begin, Jackson was hospitalized in January 2011 for a perforated stomach ulcer, which eerily was one of the contributing causes of J. R. R. Tolkien's death. Luckily, it was caught in time and surgery went smoothly. This, however, forced production and principal photography to be halted for a month."

"The films were supposed to be simple duology, but it was changed to a trilogy. Contrary to popular belief, this idea didn't come from Peter Jackson, but from producer/production manager Zane Weiner, who was sort of a Hero of Another Story for keeping the production on track during its many troubles and helping by vetoing any outside meddling he was able to. Jackson nearly had an on-set nervous breakdown when it came time to shoot the Erebor scenes during the two-movie period and to plan out the Battle of Five Armies (which had been getting postponed up until the end of shooting because they couldn't find any locations in New Zealand that would've worked, and the battle turned out to be more complex than first thought during development). Weiner then requested the three-movie split to salvage the production and give Jackson the time he needed. You read that right, the three-movie split was designed to save The Hobbit. Still, whether this was a good decision or not is up for debate."

I won't post more evidence because the text would be too big, however, I could do it. Despite their flaws and I admit them, the Hobbit movies in many parts stay true to the spirit of the books and Middle-earth and have masterful scenes and elements on par with the Lord of the Rings trilogy that I love, such as:

Martin Freeman as Bilbo, Richard Armintage as Thorin and many of the Dwarves such as Balin, for example, Thranduil and the Elves, the Trolls scene, Riddles in the Dark, the Smaug scenes (Smaug himself, in my opinion the most beautiful and imposing dragon created for an adaptation of a fantasy work, masterfully interpreted and voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch) the beautiful representation of different cultures and places like Erebor, Dale, Woodland Realm, Laketown, Goblin Town, Mirkwood, Dol Guldur, Beorn's Hall, Rhosgobel, Howard Shore's music, among other examples and if you want to see one of the scenes like the ones I quoted that perfectly conveys the spirit of the Lord of the Rings films and Tolkien in general, see the scene where Gandalf tells Galadriel why he choose Bilbo.

I personally think the Hobbit films are very good and I really think it's a miracle that they managed to make a movie that is, at very least, watchable, given all these problems. This indicates more in favor of the competence of Peter Jackson and the production team than the opposite, it is not surprising, since they were responsible for the masterpiece that is The Lord of the Rings. With this series of Amazon, we discover what a real work of desecration is like.

I have been collecting these fan edits Still trying to find the perfect one. Thanks for a new recommendation. Just as an aside I liked the bright colors of the originals.
