Have to admit that your demeanor was more subdued in this video. A much better approach with parents and district interaction and success walking away.

Hi, I just found your channel and so far it's been the best information that my wife and I have found. Yesterday, 10/19/23, both of my boys (age 8), came home with letters from their school stating that they would like to have an IEP meeting on 11/2, and it sent both of us into an absolute tail spin. My wife began to cry and I held it back and just attempted to re-assure her, but I know that it was just the fear of the unknown and what I thought this would mean for them and their future, would they be able live normal lives, what does this mean upon graduating school, because coming from growing up through the 70's and 80's, we had our own perceived idea of what being in "Special Ed" meant and looked like and the world can be mean, kids can sometimes be even meaner, but we've watched maybe 15 of your videos overnight and we feel a whole lot better than we did 8 hours ago. I think that we will be enlisting your services before our 1st meeting. Thank you for all of this wonderful information!

-A very grateful Dad.

Thank you! I am 44 and having a difficult time trying to take online classes for special education. Being able to watch someone that can put it simply for me is amazing. Since I have no reading comprehension, this is amazing!

One thing that can be implemented is a parent/educator cooperative disciplinary plan to help keep students disciplined at school AND at home.

Thank you, this was so helpful! I am entering the school district as an LCSW in a manager role after 13 years of county mental health work. I need to learn the lay of the land.

Thank you for creating this video. I found it informative and easy to follow. However, you mentioned that once a chid is determined to be student with a disability, she/he requires special education services, which is not always the case. A student can have a diability and still not to meet requirements for special ed services. Thanks again.

My 7 year old grandson has been diagnosed with ODD and ADHD and has had a long history of documented behaviors at school (Brockport School District), impulse control, bullying, threatening, hurting other children, stealing, etc. He has had a 504 Plan for years and is not receiving proper supports. I requested an IEP for him for pull-out therapy, a 1:1 aid during transitions and counseling. The school denied him an IEP because his ODD are only happening during transitions, specials, lunch and on the bus, while his behavior in the classroom and grades are average. In my opinion, the school is ignoring his disability and I am looking for an ODD expert who would be willing to consult on this matter as I appeal the school's decision. I am also hoping to find an attorney who has experience with dealing with ODD and the school system. Any help would be appreciated!

When an IEP is revised. How long does the school have to do this as well as providing the parent with the new IEP?

When a child gets assessed at school, does the parent have to specify if they want a 504 or iep? Or is the assessment taken, then they decide what the child qualifies for?
