I have been researching drones for 8 years now. The L2 / 350 combo was my first pick this fall until I discovered the slam and mobile features as well as the inertial labs imu of the more accurate R3 Pro. Now I am in the process of purchasing an R3 Pro Slam and a Matrice 350 / D-RTK 2 with jobs lined up to February already.
I recommend taking the time to learn FMHW of beam divergence and how that spec is half the laser spot size. Also the inaccurate later returns of the L2 with a very minor increase of forest floor coverage are not advantageous if urban / suburban infrastructure detail are sacrificed. You may think the up front cost savings is worth it but the artifacts seen by the CE's and Architects will cause them to question the overall accuracy of your datasets.
The rock R3 Pro enterprise is the only one with slam and no network, local only rtk option which is needed for those of us in areas of little to no cell coverage. Thanks for making this breakthrough.

Harrison - great to see this overview of the L2 sensor and comparison between it and the R3 Pro. Gives some peace of mind knowing we made the right investment with the R3 pro given the cost difference ~3x. Only downsides of R3 Pro as of now are no gimbal, lack of Rock Pilot App support for M350 and non-user generated deliverables like planimetrics and more intuitive point cloud editing. Looking at the improvements Rock Robotic has made in the past couple of years gives me no reason to doubt your teams already have these solutions in the works. Great stuff!

We love the R3 here at Lythix, so we'll keep cranking out data with it. I'm glad you pulled the trigger on this unit and gave it a run through before we did. We've been considering one as a backup to our Rock, but it looks like we'll just have to get another Rock! ;)

What's the timeline on the Rock Pilot app looking like? I know DJI nerfed you guys with their last firmware update, but I'm hoping to be able to show a client that realtime data collection soon!

Cool bro. Their price is on their website at 13k, yours is hidden. Whats the real world value add of your R3 for whatever the hidden price difference is? Does that processing artifact and late return deterioration make it any less useful in the real world?

Very cool, thanks for breaking that down, I've been flying cinema drones for over 10 years now and I'm about to get into this world and I'm trying to weigh about difference in accuracy through heavy vegetation vs price difference of the l2 and r3 pro. I want to provide quality deliverables but 18k is lot more to pay without knowing how limiting the shortcomings of the l2 are. Would you use the rock software with the l2 data on a job of yours? Sorry to put you on the spot but I'd be grateful for an honest answer before deciding on which lidar device to buy. I'd have to sell my inspire 3 for an inspire 2 to be able to afford the r3 pro and if it's not a huge difference I'd love to keep the 3 for my cinema work. Any help would be appreciated

I need to topographical map 1000's if not 10's of 1000s of acres. I need maps for ag drones to spot spray. We are going to get some drones one day. Which would you say would work for mapping steep stuff?

Dear Knoll, you know you're the driving force behind the L2 update, even though it's not a direct competitor to Rock R3. I'm curious whether we'll see also a Zenmuse P2 update in the RGB side in reaction to the medium format Phase One P5.

We stayed away from the L1 due to inaccurate data which means poor deliverables, which means your out of business! The quality standard must not be compromised. I do not think we will recommend the L2 to our client based on what you showed us here. We like Yellowscan (Made in France) for now! I would like to test L2 however.
