ZBrush for the rest of us | ZBrush interface

ZBrush has a reputation for having a unique and somewhat complex interface that can be challenging for newcomers to learn. However, it's important to note that interface preferences can vary from person to person, and some individuals might find ZBrush more intuitive compared to other 3D software.

There are a few reasons why some people may find the ZBrush interface difficult to learn:

1. Non-standard UI: ZBrush was developed with a focus on digital sculpting and artistic creativity, which led to a non-conventional user interface. The software uses a combination of menus, buttons, sliders, and brushes that might not resemble other 3D modeling programs. As a result, users accustomed to traditional 3D software may find the transition challenging.

2. Depth of features: ZBrush is a powerful and feature-rich application with a vast array of tools and options. This depth of features can be overwhelming for beginners who are trying to understand how everything works together. While the complexity provides flexibility, it also means there's a steeper learning curve.

3. Unique workflows: ZBrush's workflow is centered around a concept called "ZSpheres" for character creation and a focus on high-resolution sculpting with millions of polygons. These workflows can be different from what users are accustomed to in other 3D software, and adjusting to these novel methods can be challenging.

4. Limited traditional modeling tools: While ZBrush has evolved to include more traditional modeling features, it initially focused on sculpting. Users coming from other 3D modeling software may find certain aspects lacking or less straightforward compared to dedicated modeling applications.

5. Lack of step-by-step tutorials: Though there are many tutorials available for ZBrush, some beginners may struggle to find structured and step-by-step learning resources. This can make it more challenging to build a solid foundation before diving into more complex workflows.

Despite the initial learning curve, ZBrush is highly regarded in the digital art and 3D industry for its ability to create stunning and intricate digital sculpts. Many artists find that the effort invested in learning ZBrush pays off in the form of increased artistic freedom and creativity.

To make the learning process more manageable, consider exploring beginner-level tutorials, official documentation, and online forums or communities where you can seek help and advice from experienced ZBrush users. As with any skill, practice and patience are key to mastering ZBrush's interface and unlocking its full potential for digital sculpting and modeling.

Really appreciate this video, ZBrush is really daunting and frustrating with the micromanaging of basically everything in the program as well as how some aspects aren't in the most intuitive places.
A handy tip I think is important is pressing "Tab" this will give you a full screen sculpting display without the UI, which is really handy when I'm sculpting on the go with the MacBook Pro and iPad pro combination. Definitely agree that patience is the key to mastering this software 😅
One aspect I'd like to hear your take on, in Nomad sculpt the falloffs had presets as well as customisations which was great for getting very different effects, strokes etc on any surface. From what I've seen in the few weeks of ZBrush, falloffs are basically set to the two radius' and there doesn't seem to be a way to manipulate it like nomad except for when using an alpha. In a later video if you could touch on this and how to modify falloffs like in nomad would be greatly appreciated.

Why do models have bones that disappear after exporting GLB format?

damn! …I don’t think I’ve noticed anybody go through the interface for Zbrush as well as this guy does! - if I had seen this video 10 years ago it would’ve totally changed the way i perceived the program and it would’ve been way less scary and annoying

Does this also apply to Zbrush Core? I've had it for awhile but I've been mainly just trying learn Blender. But I would love to finally take some time out and learn Zbrush Core. So I'm hoping the UI is pretty much the same as the full version on Zbrush, minus a few extra premium features.
