I wasn’t Shure which Rode to go down, but I opted for the Podmic due to price.

With a little EQ as well as using a windscreen so I can get really up close to the mic (I have to use some proximity effect for the PodMic’s lack of bass presence), I can actually make a $99 mic sound similar to the SM7B. HOWEVER, the PodMic does not have very good RFI & EMI shielding. That’s one of the main reasons I got the SM7B

That’s why I bought SM7B so I could record my lead vocals with a more warmer, fuller sound, and the hypemic condenser to record guitar and back line vocals and harmonies

Let's be honest, though. Who's listening to this video on a phone? 😂😂😂

Honestly I love the aesthetic of the Shure sm7b but the shure sounds better to be as well + once you setup the sm7b with all the right settings it is amazing

This is amazing. I think it best suits social media like Instagram and Twitter, but so succinct.

It just has more bass, you can EQ that after recording and it’ll sound great 👍

They’re very similar in audio but the sm7b is just so full and sharp that the pod mic can’t stay up to

I'd love to hear the PosMid USB next to the CAD E90 - similar target, similar functions, similar looks, smart use cases. This here: the more expensive one is better.

The SM7B is iconic in looks. But makes your voice muffled with more bass. People with low tone voices already, will struggle to set it up (especially if you're on mac)

Depends on the mixer. I like the rode....

The Shure sounded about 10% better. What percentage more does it cost?

Infact the Audio Technica BP40 when EQ’d sounds better than both we think.

The podmic is a lot more harsh from that distance however they're both really good mics

Also, just a note, but for the way you have these mics set up for this test, you would want to use the thinner wind screen on the SM7B (according to the user manual that is)

If you aren’t listening on your phone the Shure SM7B smashes. Especially when you want to do a more broadcast style recording and get that proximity effect. Nothing wrong with the pod mic, I own 2 myself, it’s a great budget option but it doesn’t really compete with the SM7B’s and RE20’s of the world. Honestly, even the Shure SM57/SM58 out performs the Pod Mic at a comparable price. But pod mic beats most mics in looks. It looks better than it sounds IRL.

With out the cover its almost identical but with the cover the podcast mic is clearly the best the sm7B kinda sounds muffled with the cover

Hi. My friend and I are planning to start recording podcasts together, but we can't agree on whether the quality difference between expensive and affordable microphones is really necessary. I suggest buying at least an MV7 or an SM7B, while my friend prefers microphones in the Podmic price range. Do you think the difference between these two microphones would be noticeable for listeners? Do you think we should go all out and choose established, high-end products, or would more budget-friendly microphones suffice? Thank you for your recommendations.

Did anyone else hear a slight rattling in the shure sm7b

Rode Podmic is definitely brighter at least as it comes out on my 14Pro Max. However I think with proper IEMs the Shure should come on top as a more rounded and bassy mic
