Why on Alesis videos of kits show the felt side hitting the beater?

Use the felt side and adjust the height a little bit lower for better response. Plastic will damage the kickpad over time. I understand people will complain about the action pedal feels different because of the height of the beater has to adjust lower. There’s a reason why it’s low range model/tier but it's not that bad for beginners.

I had a felt beater with a mesh head, i bought it for more quiteness, it works absolutely fine, just use an evans kick drum pad on the mesh head not to wear down the mesh

Hard side of beater just makes it louder but you can always adjust it

I don't have a mesh kick pad. it's rubber so the felt works well.

The reason there is a plastic and felt side is so you can use it on acoustic and electric, therefore the plastic side is for the e kit and the felt is for acoustic.

You can use the felt side on mesh IF you use a beater patch. I actually use the stick on foam heel liners for shoes, and change them when they wear out. They work perfectly for double kick pedals, usually come in packs of four, and are very inexpensive. I've never had to change the mesh head on my kick pad.

I bought a bundle kit from Alesis and it came with felt beaters. It did start to eat through the pad and it wasnt' until I complained to them about it that they told me not to use the felt side. That would have been nice to know before, and maybe they should send you felt beaters.

Just use a damn patch and any type of beater you want.

My nitro max doesn't have a mesh head on the kick, it's more of a hard rubber, I still use the plastic side though.

The felt side feels so much better so it's not an issue... If I have to buy a new head at around 30 euro in 2 years... so be it. The plastic side feels very strange.
