… even French people don’t fully understand French rules after a lifetime. 😂 I say this as someone who lived in France and a large portion of my family is French. I just roll with my grammatical errors and if they don’t understand and I embarrass myself? well at least I have a reason to open a bottle of wine.

My tip is when you don’t remember the word in French, say it in English with a French accent. 8/10 times they know what you mean.

Merci! I bought Damons course a year ago when I didn't know a lick of French! However, I got a tutor online and she helped me get started with pronunciation and over structure now a year later I finally feel well prepared for Damons course. Duolingo helped me develop the bones of the language and the streak and leagues helped me be consistent. I have a couple french friends now and they're challenging me to speak more confidently. So thank you for the video! I'm going to document my journey too! <3

hey guys, hope you're having a wonderful week🤍
just wanted to let you know that I'll be taking a break from YouTube for a little while, (like I explained in the live video a few weeks ago) but I'll be back around late June or July :)
Sending you my love, not from Tokyo, but from the UK this time!!💓

It's so exciting that you're taking a gap year!!! (I didn't know the term gap year can be used for exploration after college graduation so I'm pleased to learn that bc I just graduated and am currently exploring as well :)) I'm so excited to see your future videos traveling/living around Europe!
Also on a side note, as a language learner myself, I've recently discovered that I'm really bad at self-studying (no motivation + it's difficult) so I've resorted to just italki lessons/language programs. It's interesting to see that you are actually good at self-studying languages!

I really like Damon as well. His early videos explaining French gramar and the Shut Up and Go videos inspired me to get back into learning French. I can't believe I didn't know he put out a French course. Thanks for sharing your experience.

One question, what site / app did you use for langauge transfer?

I might have to try that course. I’m having a harder time trying to motivate myself to learn French than I did with Spanish

I had to laugh at your "small city" comment. Sheffield would come up in the top 10 largest cities in the U.K.😅 Although, in your defence, I guess every city is small when you're coming from Tokyo. Good luck with your gap year. If you get the chance to hop over the border and see Scotland, you won't regret visiting Edinburgh.

Welcome to the UK! Hope you have a great time here and get to check out Manchester or Leeds while you're "up North". I grew up just an hour from Sheffield.
This video makes me realise that I actually know a good amount of French from school yet here I am slogging away trying to learn Spanish.
Enjoy the YouTube break!

The perfect video! Many thanks to the author of the channel for the recommendations! The problem with many people is that they want to take a "magic pill" or get "secret knowledge" and immediately have skills and abilities. However, the truth of life is that knowledge, skills, and abilities do not come by themselves. You can't learn a foreign language without doing anything, without wasting your time and effort, just like you can't learn to ride a bike lying on a comfy couch, listening to lectures and watching videos about "modern methods of learning" on a bike. To really learn something, you have to really practice every day. You're going to fall down while you're learning, and you're going to get bumps - that's normal! The ups and downs of learning are an integral part of our lives. Motivation from success and depression from failure will always be your study companions. However, every student has problems in his or her studies that he or she lacks the knowledge to solve. It can be: poor memorization of words; no progress in language learning; the student can speak, but does not understand speech by ear; misunderstanding of grammar; incorrect pronunciation, etc. Agree that a problem you don't know how to solve is very demotivating. In order to find the answer to our question we have to spend a lot of time to read videos, articles and books by polyglots. In today's world, we have to solve problems as quickly as possible. I don't have time to study and analyze a huge amount of information. My goal is to master the basic knowledge of a foreign language as quickly as possible and already start earning money effectively in the international arena. I settled on the practical guide by Yuriy Ivantsiv " Polyglot's Notes: practical tips for learning foreign language". This book is always in my bag. If I have a problem while learning a language, I quickly find the answer in this book. There are many different techniques and tips for learning a foreign language in Polyglot Notes. I have made my own individual schedule and plan for language learning. Now I know what I am going to study, how I am going to study, when I am going to study and what results I am going to achieve. No problem could stop me! With an effective language learning plan my professional skills are more and more in demand internationally every day. Friends, don't stop there! Everyone has talents that millions of people around the world need! Learn the language and make your ideas and dreams come true! Thanks to the author of the channel for the informative and useful video! Your videos motivate me.

So cool to see you in the UK! If you ever get the chance you should come here to Cardiff and attempt to learn some Welsh! It’s a great city with a friendly atmosphere! I’m learning French too but with LingQ, hope to be as linguistically accomplished as you one day!
