Yes. This could identify things more. However you're suggesting it will follow the methods that our own atmosphere allows.

When it comes to an atmosphere, you have to consider. Will it Pentatrate it? Will it cause damage to the atmosphere, jeopardizing that planet in the future? Will shoving this laser, cause retaliation thinking they're under attack? Considerations need to be considered.
