Whether you want to know about the results of the marathon or else you want to receive more information about the event itself, we have to mention one important thing which is that Belfast City Marathon is a huge event that is held every year.
2018 marathon will be the 37th time for this sports event - it is the 37th anniversary for it. There was a huge number of runners taking place in this marathon and since it also took place on the Bank Holiday Monday, this number was actually expected to come from the beginning. There were about 17,000 people who hit the road for the marathon, wheelchair race, team relay and fun run. Out of those 17,000 people, about 3,000 were taking part in the gruelling 26 miles - the numbers were really huge, but since this was a street marathon event, we have to say that this was an expected thing.
The history of Belfast Marathon started back in 1982 with only 3,025 participants, this year and after all those years taking its place on May Day, it managed to bring 17,000 participants to the place.
There were lots of those who attended the event but not as runners, they instead stood with a crowd of about 50,000 person cheering for the runners and supporting them - of course there were photographers and others who might be reporting the news of the event to the public; there were about 50,000 supporters for the marathon runners during that day!
There were five different events taking place during that event and completing it, these events were the full marathon run which was the main part of this event, the team relay, the 8 mile walk, the fun run and the wheelchair race. This was enough to prove that this marathon run and event was giving every single person the chance to be part of it.
The interesting thing about this marathon was the results, the results of Belfast City Marathon for this year was different with the Kenyan winners in both men and women who managed to take the first place and who were then followed by the Irish winners taking further positions.
There are usually a lot of questions coming to our minds when it comes to any marathon held out there and a couple of them include: how do marathoners tend to run for full two hours without falling in the middle of the way? What do they feel after achieving their goal? What those who didn't manage to make the first places but at least completed the marathon feel as well? Lots of questions to be asked and different ideas coming to our minds, but we feel proud of them for even giving themselves the chance to take part in the marathon in the first place.
Eric Koech was the one who took the men's title for the 37th Belfast City Marathon to be held with a time 2:18:20 while Caroline Jepchirchir won the women's title with a time of 2:41:17. Laura Graham, the Irish winner for last year managed to win the second place for this year as well with her top performance at a time 2:43:34.
These are different Belfast attractions which you will most probably find in the same area and since the marathon tour moves in a specific direction, those who have been there could have passed by them during the marathon. It might not be an interesting thing for those runners joining the marathon, but it is definitely an important thing for those who are attending the marathon to cheer up for the runners, they could go to any of these destinations if they are visiting Belfast for a trip.
