How We Went From Broke To Comfortable In 1 Year | Making it Work

Being broke is one of the most emotionally exhausting things a person can experience. Oftentimes, it helps to hear how others have come out okay on the other side of a terrible financial situation. In this video, one woman explains how she and her wife went from being broke to being comfortable financially in one year, including all the steps (and help) they needed to get there.

Through weekly video essays, "Making It Work" showcases how *real* people have upgraded their personal or financial lives in some meaningful way. Making your life work for you doesn't mean getting rich just for the sake of it. It means making the most of what you have to build a life you love, both in your present and in your future. And while managing money is a crucial life skill for everyone, there's no one "right way" to go about it — you have to figure out what works best for *you,* full stop.

“We sold our extra car and first home...”
Yeah. Can’t relate. Good for these two tho.

You own a house, a car, a puppy, travel a lot, eat at restaurants and call yourselves broke? Don't you think that is a slap in the faces of people who struggle to buy food at the end of the month?

These women owned their own home, were eating out at restaurants, and traveling...tell me again how they were broke?

The reason this stuff gets down voted is because middle class wage people who spend poorly is an insult to actually broke or people in poverty. It's like when adults try to say 'rad, coooll' pretending they are young. It's just cringe and not helpful

This is the second one of these inspirational stories I've seen on this channel where the people/person in question didn't have to pay rent. All those other little things do add up, but rent is such a huge drain that if you have to pay it, even eliminating travel, eating out, buying things, etc., can still keep you in a cycle of barely making it.

I honestly only like Chelsea's videos. Everything else on *TFD* are so vague and doesn't go into detail.

Can you do one with someone who has medical bills and chronic illness that limits options? I could be comfortable too if random surgeries didnt keep popping up each time I manage to start saving.

I like a lot of these videos but this one is so clueless. It's like "how middle class people in debt became middle class people thriving". How does that apply to your average viewer?

I love this series but this one really seemed tone deaf to me.

Terrible advice.  How is this a financial diet?  I did not think a person should upsize their home AND purchase a new car when there is an increase in income.  Isn't this exactly what we should not do?  Did your puppy really need a bigger house?

I'm a young adult suffering from health issues and that has put me in a huge hault. I had to put college on hold and work minimum wage. I have no relatives that can give my immediate family help. We're on our own. This advice is only valid to middle class folks.

How did she go from 100 thousand in debt to paying off her debt with 21 thousand? Did I miss something?

30k is not a meagre salary. Especially not when you own a home.

Even if this didn't have much specific advice, this was such a heartwarming story to hear. It's good to hear about a positive relationship in which people communicated and had tough conversations about money, and are now better together because of it.

"We were broke because we spend way too much money on unnecessary shit but then we started spending less money on slightly more sensible stuff instead and stopped being broke" Yeah, awesome advice... who would've thought that being broke could be related to wasting too much money??

*I went from homeless to living comfortable and being able to travel and own a car and a house within 2 years.*

It's all about the longterm vision, don't be distracted by all the short term easy wins. Focus on investing in yourself!

I am not broke and I don’t own a house or a car, but I take all the good advices your team is giving us. “Smart people learn from their mistakes, but the real sharp ones learn from the mistakes of others” Brandon Mull.

This series is so bad! I can't believe the amount of time they put into making the video when in fact the content is so empty. A clear picture of the American stereotype. Not watching anymore.
