RPG Maker Fes is the latest addition to the RPG Maker Series, a DIY game development software that allows you to create any sort of adventure. RPG Maker Fes is the first English portable version in the series, releasing on the 3DS in June of 2017. Can it compare to its PC counterparts? Let's find out.

This is a little different than what I usually review and content I create, but I figured I'd give it a shot. The free RPG Maker Player app is on the 3DS eshop, just search for RPG Maker and it will show up. I didn't upload my experiment yet, but I'll edit this comment when I do.

It seems limited but a nice way to try my hand at writing and game design in a simple to use platform before going bigger.

Even if they customizable features are a joke I still buy it, I want to make a village full of weird NPCs with funny dialogues.

I was thinking that the limitations of this game maker makes it feel like you'd see a lot of games that just... look the exact same. There doesn't seem to be enough variation, no custom sprites to add, nothing that makes YOUR game stand out from all the others. I'm not saying this is bad, just a limitation. It could be fantastic for a creative outlet, but it seems very niche.

Great review. It touched on points other reviewers have glossed over or forgotten completely. I especially liked how you cycled through menus to give us an idea of everything.

This system they use in RPG Maker for damage and defense is a Damage Value system
Basically: Damage Value - Defense = result
So if you have more defense than the opponent's attack you will take 0 damage.
For RPG Maker MV Yanfly created a Plugin to change the Damage Value system to Armor Scaling damage system. Aka Percentage damage of the base base attack divided by Defense x 2

Here's an idea for having a multiple of the same item, every time you get x item it will check for item of the same name.

Then it will change the item to item x number.

I imagined I could make it more complicated if you have development menus listing every single item and if there's no way to search

I made a little demo called world of dungeons. It is a dungeon crawler with a reset switch at the entrance to reset the dungeon with random loot drops and there is raid dungeons too. I am thinking of making the game on the Nintendo Switch with the RPG Maker MV.

On the Japanese site, there's a huge amount of DLC, and a good amount of them are free.

For example, there's a free Modern setting, and there's a Sci-Fi setting for like 400 yen, I could be wrong on price though.

I remember reading a while back that it was possible to track how many of an item was in the player's inventory for events. I think their example was Bat Wings.

I wish this game had come out near the beginning of the 3DS life-cycle instead of near its end. I'm just afraid that if I make an epic RPG that there will be no one around to play it. How many more years is Nintendo going to keep the 3DS eShop up and running anyway?

Still, being able to freely share games is a _huge_ mark in its favor. I still can't believe Nintendo made the bone-headed decision to leave that feature out of Super Mario Maker 3DS.

all problems of this software could be fixed if they had plugin support. everyone keeps telling me that's impossible but the new 3ds has a micro SD network transfer. so you can transfer scripts, Sprites and audio files without taking the SD card out of the DS. they should have taken advantage of that
