Such a shame this song was so overlooked for not being a single and for being in an unpopular album. What a hidden gem.

For all the people with the negative comments..
There is something about Muse you are missing...
Muse is a special band, a Theatrical band.. it means they suggest vibes of Opera, Drama, Tributes. Don't look at them otherwise because they are not. They are not immitating queen, they are paying them a big amount of respect.
Imagine a theatre, especially in this song. It's a masterpiece.

It's funny because as much as this song makes me want to cry, at the same time it gives me strength to carry on and deal with any depressing thoughts that cross my mind. This is the first time I can spiritually connect with music on such a great level, it's breathtaking. Their songs never cease to amaze me... I should have discovered them sooner.

This song is incredible, it made me fall in love with a girl. On an overnight bus trip, she fell asleep on me, and this song was playing through my headphones, the world felt different, it felt right.

Just started listening "The 2nd Law" and when this song came it reminded me why Muse are one of the greatest modern bands nowadays. They really deserve the success they have!

I would say this song makes me feel happy or safe but it makes me fly. It makes me feel connected to heaven and what's beyond. Beautiful lyrics which perfectly suit the music. I can't find the perfect word to describe how beautiful I find this song

It's all to touching but at the end go to sleep" just hits hard. So many times laying awake with the same thoughts feeling the despair and hopelessness. I like to think that he's speaking to somebody. His love who has the same feelings, and sometimes the only freedom from the world and these thoughts that go in a circle is to try and go to sleep.

I love the fact that Muse is one of those bands I've listened too over the years and I've still not heard all of their music. Its like I can depend on them for an awesome composition any day.

I was listening to this in the car yesterday and a motorbike drove past and blocked out most of the sound for a few seconds... The lyric that it blocked out was 'Hear the engines roar' :L

Probably one of the most beautiful music ever composed.

Impressive. I have listened to this song in 2 differents ways. First I didn't care about the lyrics, I just felt the music. Then I have looked at lyrics and as surprising as it is, even if I discover another part of the song, it was also very similar. The way in which muse make his music is a kind of magic because you can get the message even if you don't understand lyrics : isn't it the definition of art ?
From a French fan who apologize for his English.

Once I sang this to a girl I used to date with while the song was playing, we were at her living room, playing random shit on Spotify and smoking pot, suddenly the song started and I took the chance. I knew I was in love in that moment.
My point is that dedicating songs is the best way to say what you feel for someone when you don’t have the right words. Always dedicate songs to the ones you REALLY love, and treasure the songs they give to you.

I grew up with an alcoholic and abusive father. When I was 15, it became too much to bear, and my mom and I fled the house. We used to listen to this song, singing it and crying together, hoping for a better future where we would by free of my dad. He even found our new house and tried to k*ll my mom by strangulation when I was at school, before attempting s**cide. It was such a difficult part of my life and even to this day it's dizzying to think that there is a universe where I could have lost both my parents on this tragic day. Today, my mom is incredibly happy. She has an amazing boyfriend and I'm proud of her. This song helped us to keep faith and hope in the future. We wanted to be free and we are. It's been 10 years now and the only thing that doesn't change is the fact that this music still makes me cry :)

Also I would like to put this out there so others understand this song a bit because some of what Matt writes about are advanced conceptual ideas in physics and science.

"A deuterium and helium-3 fusion creates helium and charged protons as byproducts and few or no radioactive particles. " <- this is why he said Helium-3 is our last hope, however there is a problem with that in that to do that would require us to be able to build a break even nuclear reactor. We cannot do that, there is only 1 break even nuclear reactor in existence and the sun.

The whole album is talking about things like the Conservation Laws of Thermodynamics, particularly the 2nd law, hence the title of the album. The second law is "in an isolated system, entropy only increases."

This is what makes it an awesome album for me, finally people who didn't follow the mainstream public and just did their own thing. That pretty cool, I expect that from intelligent people who actually know society is unnecessary and only there to give us a sense of safety and security but its a false illusion due to no one can be in 2 places at 1 time so how exactly is a handful of government officials going to fix a problem with 7.28 billion variables in it?

It's why he has a problem with government, its tyranny he doesn't like, its simply the government is completely unnecessary and only hinders people's pursuit of happiness in their life. Intelligence always makes a person suffer more in this world because they are aware of all the unnecessary hoops to jump through and know NO ONE should have to jump through them. The more that increases the more depressed a person becomes, its why a lot of geniuses are actually pretty depressed. Seeing exactly what the problem is and then trying to get people to understand all of that is usually a fruitless effort and that is depressing.

What he is expressing is empathy for his fellow human beings, he feels bad for the way we are controlled and a lot of people do not realize we are controlled from birth. The moment a birth certificate is signed is the moment that baby now belongs in part to the government. He is right, the more intelligent you become you no longer "belong in this world" because society dictates the level of happiness for everyone and that shit is never equal. Yeah we don't need government or society.
