CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Starman (Jeff Bridges) tells Jenny (Karen Allen) that, despite her previous infertility, he impregnated her with a baby that will be human but will possess all of Starman's knowledge.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
Having crashed to Earth, an extraterrestrial space traveller must assume a human identity lest he be captured by the authorities. The alien (Jeff Bridges) chooses the likeness of the recently deceased husband of Jenny Hayden (Karen Allen). At first dumbstruck, Jenny becomes both hostile toward and frightened of her guest. He gradually wins her confidence, learning a few vital English-language phrases so that he can explain his presence. The "starman" has come to Earth with a message of peace, in response to the similar message sent out on Voyager One. He asks for Jenny's help in transporting him to the Nevada desert, where his fellow aliens are to pick him up and take him to his home planet. Soon he and Jenny form a united front against a mean-spirited National Security Council agent (Richard Jaeckel), who intends to seize the starman and turn him over for scientific scrutiny (and possible extermination). While en route to Nevada, Jenny grows closer to the gentle-natured Starman, eventually making love with him. By the time he is poised to leave, she is carrying his child, leaving the field wide open for a sequel--which was never produced, though a weekly TV version surfaced in 1986.

I'm a 63 year old man, and this scene still brings tears to my eyes. Jeff did such an outstanding job of presenting something that no one has ever seen. Truly, in my top 10 films of all time!

1:17 Karen Allen's face and eyes are so beautiful in that scene. You can feel what Jenny feels there.

When the Starman arrived, Jenny had nothing.
When he left, she had everything.

I love the kindness or willingness of strangers to help the Starman reach his destination. He gets to experience both the worst and best of humanity.

When he says, "If you do not want this baby, tell me now. I will stop it, " it made me tear up. The line seemed so innocently delivered, with a hint of disappointment. It evokes emotion.

Jeff's performance is amazing. He's "almost" human in everything and that adds to the performance perfectly.

This is one of the most emotionally motivating alien movies ever made. Carpenter is an absolute genius..

This was one of my Granny’s favorite movies. One of mine too, ever since i was tiny. What I find really wonderful though, is the comment section. Seems to be that Starman is a love story that many men enjoy.

The best gift he could've ever given her.

I love this movie. It's rarely talked about when discussing Carpenter. But truly this is among his finest work. I especially love the quote / scene near the end: "Well, as much as I hate to stoop to symbolism..". Then he blows smoke in the villain's face. Classic..

This movie is wonderful. Think of where she was before star man came into her life. Depressed heartbroken she lost her husband & can never have a child bc she is infertile. She not only got to love again but he gave her a child of her late husbands dna & his. He made sure she will never be alone again. He gave her not only the most amazing gift but a purpose & reason to live. Imagine losing ur husband & even if u meet someone else ull never have your own child. Imagine how having you're deceased husbands child & he will live on in her son. She obviously loved star man not bc he was a clone of scott but for himself. Omg I cried when he said he could make the baby go away if she wanted & hugged him. I love after this she asks where he Lives so she can show her son where his father came from. Also I cried at the end when she begged him to take her with him. He says he cant bc she will die & she doesn't care. It calls back to her explaining what love is caring more about the person u love than urself. She would rather more time with him & die than be alone but he reminds her about the baby. Omg I kinda wish their was a sequel about the baby but the movie is perfect the way it is. We know Jenny will be happy with a miracle child she never would have had not even if Scott were still alive. I love that he says the baby will be of ur husband but of him too. So beautiful. I also love the line about humans & more particularly americans that they are at their best when things are at their worst. Really applies to 9/11 & how people in ny & around the country came together. Too bad it doesnt apply today when we are more divided than ever. I think he also is talking about all the kindness of strangers that helped them travel on. Such an underrated film & carpenters best. I was surprised he did it actually I'm used to his movies having gore & horror but the score is very carpenter.

It’s amazing Jenny finally got everything she ever wanted she got a second chance she got a baby that before she couldn’t have and she fell in love again it’s like her late husband came back from heaven to earth to see Jenny again the ending is sad but at least they will always love each other.

This part made me emotional when she hugged him! Saw this movie last night and was the first time in so many years since I saw it! I remember back when it came out in the early 80’s and my parents would watch it! Brings back so many memories for me in my life

1:35 - 2:04 Beautiful film. A timeless classic. The scene which the Starman tells Jenny that he impregnated her and that the child will be human is truly one of the most beautiful moments in the movie. Such a shame Jeff didn't win the Oscar for his performance.

Having lived through the 1980s, it was often hard to believe that decade could ever have given anyone hope. Then you watch a film like this, and you understand that hope can spring from dreamers even in the darkest of times. Lessons

It was good that the alien made sure she knew that it was Scott's baby as well as his.
