I know we’ve all been there, dreaming up floaty summer dresses but then our drapey fabric starts misbehaving at the sewing machine, if not before driving us crazy at the cutting table and developing a mind of its own.

Mismatched seams, fraying fabric and all kinds of wonky cutting, there’s a reason sewing with lighter weight fabrics has a tricky reputation. But we promise it doesn’t have to be like that and sewing with lightweight fabrics can be rather lovely when you've got some tricks up your sleeve...

I also find that fixing my pattern pieces to the fabric with double-sided sticky tape helps keep them in place!

i also find using a roller foot (and i heard a walking foot) helps me with slippery fabrics.

Is there a particular roller blade you recommend. I'm very inexperienced with them, having used scissors all my long sewing life!

I have some slippery fabric that I want to use shirring elastic on but the fabric won’t stay still enough for me to mark my lines that I will sew the shirring along, do you have any tips for this or another way I can do this? Thank you! 🙏
