Research done at the University of Queensland discovered a way to turn off the immune response individuals experience when exposed to an allergen. Usually whatever the substance that is causing the allergy, be It food allergies, dust or pollen, has a protein that triggers our immune system, collection of cells that defend our body, into attacking it. This attack our immune system has against the protein allergen creates the allergy. Researchers are implementing ways that involve a single injection gene therapy, that involves bioengineering blood cells to target our immune system, and turn off the immune response. Researchers are thinking to implement this gene therapy injection into people with severe asthma, or lethal food allergies.
