These old cartoons taught me an appreciation of classical music before I knew anything about classical music. 🙏

This cartoon creation to Saint-Saens’ Danse Macabre is the best of them all — it remains the perennial favorite of mine. And mind you, I’m 77 years old and waiting to have at least one grandchild from our one and only child who’s now 37 years old! Thank you sooo much for the pleasure.

This piece is the reason I fell in love with the violin as a kid. My first musical obsession - as soon as I heard it I wanted to learn how to play it. 40 yrs later I'm still playing :) 🎻💀

I haven’t seen this since I was a kid. Thank you for posting this video. When I was a kid, there were so many cartoons that introduced me to classical music. I miss those days.

The cartoons of my youth (I’m 59) - amusing, and it gave one a bit of appreciation for classical music. I can recall a Bugs Bunny cartoon featuring The Barber of Seville.

Danse Macabre I have loved since I was about 4 years old. I choreographed to it, became a musician because of it ( and a few others). Very important to me. Thank you.

"Come out, come out, come out from your grave
It's time to twirl and dance and play
Tonight's the night of Halloween
Let's dance around til the morning gleam"
-my music teacher Mrs Dix

80s Disney's short film take on Saint Saens, one of my favorite numbers when I played viola in orchestra and one of the all time great Halloween tunes, I still picture in my mind the spirits dancing into their graves as the sun rises. i saw this on TV when I was a very young person in the 80s

Saint-Saëns' Danse Macabre (Dance of Death) is based on this poem

Danse Macabre by Henri Cazalis.

Tap, tap, tap—Death rhythmically,
Taps a tomb with his heel,
Death at midnight plays a gigue,
Tap, tap, tap, on his violin.

The Winter wind blows, the night is dark,
The lime-trees groan aloud;
White skeletons flit across the gloom,
Running and leaping beneath their huge shrouds

Tap, tap, tap, everyone’s astir,
You hear the bones of the dancers knock,
A lustful couple sits down on the moss,
As if to savour past delights.

Tap, tap, tap, Death continues,
Endlessly scraping his shrill violin
A veil has slipped! The dancer’s naked!
Her partner clasps her amorously.

They say she’s a baroness or marchioness,
And the callow gallant a poor cartwright.
Good God! And now she’s giving herself,
As though the bumpkin were a baron!

Tap, tap, tap, what a saraband!
Circles of corpses all holding hands!
Tap, tap, tap, in the throng you can see
King and peasant dancing together!

But shh! Suddenly the dance is ended,
They jostle and take flight—the cock has crowed…
Ah! Nocturnal beauty shines on the poor!
And long live death and equality!
