We get bombarded in the comment section about how rubbish/fantastic throttle controllers are. SO, we did some research and after a few years of using them we decided to make a vide addressing this. Are they worth it?
Spoiler: We gained 1000hrsprs.

This video boils down to "trust me, I can feel it"

To all those who are against throttle controllers, try one first, if you own a ford ranger it's a must, mine is my daily driver 90% on tarmac, and when you go to put your foot down there is a lag, this can be a pain when you want to overtake or speed up to get out of trouble, the controller don't give you any more horse power it just gets the revs up there faster and it does it faster than you just using your foot so how can you slag something off without trying one first

Isn't the right foot a throttle control?

I got the EVCX recently for my 2024 Ford Ranger WildTrak X in Aussie, and I totally agree here. It doesn't give you more power as some people might lead you to believe, but what it does offer me is the ability to reduce that acceleration lag.

The countless times I'm waiting at a round-about for my go, and when the time comes and the gap allows it, I plant my foot down only to find that the Ranger needs about 1 second to wake up, and another second for the wheels to get going, and no, I'm not referring to the Auto-start stop feature. Even when disabled, the Ranger really struggles to launch. The outcome is that by the time the Ranger gets going, the traffic on the right has already taken advantage of my disadvantage and either they're already in the round about (Causing me to brake hard) or the opposite direction car has entered the roundabout, and I've caused him/her to brake cause I can't get my heavy butt ranger going when it should've been 2 seconds ago.

The EVCX for me at least, has minimised the lag, it doesn't completely get rid of it, but it's MUCH more reasonable and it makes driving the Ranger THAT much more enjoyable at lower speeds. The outcome for me is that suddenly after installing this, my Ranger "Feels" like it shed off about 500kg-800kg of weight. This is why some people say it gives you more engine power, but the reality is that it doesn't. What it does give you is the ability for the top end power to be available much earlier when you press the accelerator.

I haven't tried her offroad yet, but the econ mode and anti-slip mode seems to be very promising.

DO you NEED one? No... But should you take one off if it's got one installed??? OH HELL no... ESP for the Ranger NextGEN.

Have had the iDrive for years in my petrol 4wd and it certainly makes it a better drive, no question about it. Until you use one you’d be surprised . Steve 🇦🇺

US watcher here. I have a Tacoma that is tuned so for everyday driving I leave my EVC X throttle controller (which I think is an Aussie product) on the factory setting but for wheeling it is a huge help in eco mode for slow crawling or in ultimate for a throttle boost for blasting through muddy bogs.
Great video 👍🏻

Why call someone with a different opinion a troll? I mean in simple terms it changes the input you throttle receives and sends on to your engine to your liking - that is cool and for one or the other model that might be a huge improvement - on the other hand some might have variable settings from factory and one might be happy with that... I would call neither side of opinion a troll as it is a personal thing. It is similar to the old discussion Manual / Auto or Toyota /Nissan and so on - you need to find the "thing" that fits you and your driving style in my opinion...

I’ve been using an iDrive on my 2017 Colorado for 4 years now. I tow every day, and also get up to the Vic High Country a few times a year. This car is a totally different car with the iDrive! Would not be without it. Set on U8 every day🤙🏼🤙🏼

Had a HikeIt in my 2017 MU-X. Made a huge difference and wouldn't live without it.
Have a 2022 Hilux now and honestly don't believe I need it. Heaps less turbo lag (once warmed up like any diesel).
It's horses for courses and every vehicle is different. They do make a difference and a for some vehicles, it's a huge difference.

Fantastic video Bridget yes the throttle controller really helps in the soft sand and even out there passing someone on the highway. Looking forward to watching your next video Ladies

Run both the Idrive and Hike IT on our vehicles, throttle controller works great on the X-Trail towing the camper trailer, offroad the Prado definitely benefits with the controller, much more precise control in different terrains and off the line performance is better than standard turbo diesel config

These Hiluxes have very little throttle lag, I've driven my parents' 2010 and they are quite responsive. Drive something newer like a new Dmax, they have heaps of initial lag compared to this model of Hilux.
My 2021 BT50 (basically a Dmax) is the same, so I got a HikeIt throttle controller to help get rid of the initial spongy feeling

I’ve personally found they’re better in autos over manual because it makes it hard to smoothly shift gears. Low range isn’t as bad because you don’t need the accelerator so much when disengaging the clutch. While they definitely have their moments, i think to leave it in factory in most situations because I know how the car is going to react. More experience with the controller might help but I haven’t felt a need it. In an auto though, 100%

The throttle controller is just a multiplier, simple.
When you depress the accelerator, the module on the accelerator sends an electronic signal to the ECU, which responds accordingly. A throttle controller sits between the accelerator and the ECU. So for example, you depress the accelerator giving it say 25% input, the throttle controller tricks the ECU into thinking you've given it 50 or 60% input. Hence the perception that it is more responsive. It's not. Pressing your foot down harder yeilds the exact same response from the ECU. It just appears more responsive with less foot input because it's multiplying the signal.

Have an idrive in my 2014 px ranger. Made a massive difference in acceleration, got rid of the lag.

Now do a test with your 4x4 tuned for torque and try with the throttle controller off.

No matter what kit you've got, there are situations where you need some kinetic energy.

At the end of the day the most important "tech" is driver skillset.

Pre tune mine was great for helping with lag and post tune it's great for being off road I chuck it on economy 5 or 6 and it's so much smoother. Rarely use it on the road!!! They can be a pain in the ass in a manual vehicle

I can see how this might be helpful on a laggy engine. It's not for me mainly because my truck has decent torque even off boost and it sppols early, also since it's a mechanical pump and not drive by wire on like a newer vehicle it gives me the throttle response and feel to get through what i need when i need it.
