In the third round of the group stage of the Copa America, Costa Rica faced Paraguay. In the first half, Joseph Mora's cross was headed in by Calvo to give Costa Rica the lead. Alcaraz then ran through the half and scored from the top of the box to extend the lead. In the second half, Villasanti assisted Ramón Sosa in scoring a goal to pull one back for Paraguay. Ultimately, Costa Rica won 2-1 over Paraguay.
