Is Franco Colapinto REPLACING Jack Doohan?

Franco Colapinto joins Alpine as F1 reserve driver for 2025! Since late 2024 there have been talks of a driver swap between Franco Colapinto and Jack Doohan and it was just announced that Franco Colapinto leaves Williams and will Head to Alpine F1 team on a multi-year reserve drive deal. This move puts added pressure on Australian F1 driver Jack Doohan, who will drive for Alpine in 2025. The media certainly think there is some fight still between Franco Colapinto vs Jack Doohan for the second Alpine seat in 2025.

Honestly not entirely shocked by this.. I do feel bad for Jack pressure wise but.. the excitement and money around Franco I knew was too hard to pass up. Especially all of the fans (myself included) that were excited for him and then disappointed at the grid announcement for this season. Feel bad for Jack but I do have to admit that I’m excited to see Franco race again. Quite a few of his crashes (not all) weren’t his fault.

Doohan is 100% gone after Miami unfortunately, even if he drives well. Alpine didn’t pay millions to release Colapinto from Williams for him to be a reserve driver.

But Franco had to get into a car in the same or worse conditions than Jack. Without knowing the circuits, without having driven an F1 (except Silverstone once), Franco in 3 days had to change from F2 to F1, and he proved to be a great pilot, he reported the accidents beforehand by radio. It's the same or worse pressure and no one felt sorry for him. On the contrary, we all support him and even demand to win. I don't see the difference. Except that nobody buys a driver for many millions, already having another. What Briatore saw in Colapinto, we all saw: a diamond in the rough. Franco is a very special driver. Briatore saw this, just like many other bosses.
Ignorant people judging Franco on some crashes he made at the end, well…Verstappen, Lewis, Alonso, Schumacher, they all crashed too when young and in their first races. All these drivers became world champions. Two of the ones I mentioned were spotted and hired by Briatore. So I don’t think he’s making a bad decision. Franco is a diamond in the rough, that needs very little to shine bright.
I feel bad for jack, but Franco just makes more sense in many ways including marketing and sponsorship.

if i remember well, with a Williams Colapinto overtook like four times Gasly's Alpine, including his first ever F1 race in Monza. Overtook Ocon too. Doohan has to prove that he is capable of that. Speaking only about potential and talent, cause in marketing Colapinto is much more worthy

You’ve said it all. F1 is a brutal sport. If you are not fast you are out. Specially these days, mid tier teams don’t have the money or patience for drivers to mature if there’s no potential. Franco has it all: potential, hunger, charisma and sponsors with deep pockets. He will be a Pier’s parter sooner than we think.

As franco's fan, i think doohan deserve start f1 season, all we have so much respect for all drivers, and only if he not show good GP performance may change his seat at medium 2025.
There are 20 drivers whit a lot of performance pressure not only doohan can thrown out, and may be lawson and antonelli had more pressure than doohan,
Briatore see colapinto as gold mine like alonso in the past, but dont rush the process and times

You've made a fine reflexion, without Checo Perez, spanish speaking america was left with no driver. And Australia will have two being just one country. That's something to think about.
Besides that, the kids are not to blame for Briatore. Briatore is old School and I think he prefers fast and crashee than slow and safe. Who knows....
