Honestly Radio Shack closed 15 or so years ago and became phone shack. I basically grew up buying lots of tubes and components from them. They were the last brick and motor store here that carried any type of electronic component. The last 2 closed down last year. Nothing with in a hundred miles I know of. Boy I miss them.

Another example of how everything is going to hell in a hand basket. Bad enough that we are normalizing degeneracy. Now, we are moving toward communication that is more easily controlled by the elites.

I have a lot of good memories of Radio Shack growing up just outside of Boston. Bought my first kit there, a 3 tube regen. The Archer Globe Patrol. Still have it here along with the solid state state version. As a teen, the battery of the month club sure helped to keep me in batteries for my projects. They have been gone from Canada for a few years now and it's sad to think they will be gone for good. Thanks for the fun times Radio Shack!

Radio Shack deserves to die. They haven't been the great store many of us remember for quite some time. They were ruined by profiteers with little understanding of their core constituents. Yes, we need a store like Radio Shack once was, but not the one it is now.

They were out of WV for years one thing I've always missed was those big thick catalogs with all the stuff that they sold. I learned a lot from just reading about the inventory.

Im sorry to hear this. I have bought so many things from radio shack throughout the years. Most of the radios shack stores in my area are now gone. I got some really good clearance deals. I loved going in there 10 years ago and buying two way radio, when they sold more radios then phone and other stuff etc. We had a local electronic store in the area close after decades of service to the area. It seems like all the good places are disappearing ;(

I was going down Florida Ave. near Bush Blvd. in Tampa the other day and I happened to notice the Radio Shack store in the Northgate Center was still there. I used to go to this store back in the 1960's !!...

Don't forget that many Radio Shacks now are independently owned franchises and do not have to follow the corporate line when it comes to what they carry or how they operate.
Yes, back up to the mid 70s there was RS, Lafayette Radio Electronics, Heath Kit,
as far as chain stores were concerned. Perhaps the remaining independent RS stores can
band together and return to what made the company great in the first place...It really requires someone that loves radio hobbyists to foot the bill, and the new reformed RS would be a small chain of stores once again.

I remember when Radio Shack carried good stereo components, build it yourself radios and all kinds of good stuff. When they basically became cell phone stores that is when they really started going down.

That place was the best in the 1970's for scanners and cb radios.

Got two stores within 9 miles of each other and they are independently owned franchises. They started out good years ago
and had a good assortment of merchandise then started messing with computer sales in the early 80s then cellphones.
The computers only lasted a few years and these stores are still selling some RS products but mostly cellphones. I doubt
if they can make it on cellphones with all of the businesses like Walmart selling them and thanks for the video.

They filed for Chapter 11 for a second time and are closing about 200 more stores...

Tom, the writing's been on the wall for a while now, but it's still sad news. Thanks for sharing the info though - maybe the existing stores will have some good buys before they close?

By the way, have you ever been to the Pilot Mall Aviation Superstore in Lakeland? I understand they have some pretty cool gear there - maybe even radios as well. I've been meaning to check it out next time I'm in the area.

Brick and mortar retail is dying overall. At least I have a ham radio outlet within driving distance. Although the case of radio shack is just bad business decisions.
