In this game, the MLB umpires made an arguable call during the 2012 NLWC game that has been a debate amongst fans since it happened. There was a fly ball to shallow left field that would've loaded the bases for the losing team, however the umpires called the runner out by using the infield-fly rule, even though the ball was not in the infield.

By rule it is technically an infield fly. However, that call is also noted as Umpires Judgement. Meaning he has the full discretion and authority to NOT call it & let them play.

That is an infield fly. The infield would be able to make the catch with ordinary effort. Also, runners on 1st and second are a requirement of the rule and there are less than 2 outs. 2 outs eliminates the infield fly rule. Technically speaking, even if the ump did not call it the players are supposed to play with the knowledge that this is an infield fly.

Cap.. it says a fly ball hit in the infield.. nothing, it’s pretty vague so I take that as dirt to about 5 ft of outfield grass, anything beyond that is the outfield and I’d be pissed too

The only reason this is an issue is because the fielder thought the umpire yelling "infield fly" was the outfielder calling him off. This is the definition of infield fly. Fly ball that can be caught by an infielder with ordinary effort. He's camped under it. If he let the ball drop in front of him, there's a chance they could turn 2 by throwing to 3rd then 2nd.
