From what I can understand from the plot, Venti, Heizou and Xiao work in a detective agency. Kazuha comes in as a client whose case is trying to find his missing cat. Their lead brings them to a private banquet where they do find Kazuha's cat. What the trio of detectives failed to notice is that the cat was just a distraction and Kazuha is actually a phantom thief. Kazuha just needed to gain access of the building while the detective trio acts as a commotion in the banquet. By the time the cat reveals itself, Kazuha had already gotten his hands on the amethyst.
