Melanie Ellwanger is a North Georgia DUI, Criminal Defense and Traffic Citation Attorney. She is a former prosecutor and judicial candidate. Melanie has been named a Rising Star by SuperLawyers 2013-2016.
Melanie founded her practice, Melanie Ellwanger, Attorney at Law in early 2014 after running for election for Municipal Court Judge of Roswell. She has been named a Super Lawyers' Rising Star for 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.
Prior to opening her own practice, Melanie was a senior associate with Head, Thomas , Webb & Willis, the largest DUI defense firm in Georgia. Ms. Ellwanger focused on DUI, Criminal and Traffic violations, but also worked on a new treatise on civil law that is set to be published.
Previously, Ms. Ellwanger was also employed as an Assistant Solicitor with the Forsyth County Solicitor-General’s Office where she was responsible for the prosecution of over 1000 criminal cases including DUI, domestic violence, traffic charges and other crimes. Melanie also served as a prosecutor for the county’s DUI Court program. She attended various police officer training courses including NHTSA DUI Detection and Field Sobriety Testing, where she earned a Certificate of Completion. Before accepting a position with the Solicitor’s Office, Ms. Ellwanger worked as a law clerk and investigative assistant with the Hall County Public Defender’s Office in Gainesville, Georgia.
Melanie is a graduate of University of Arkansas School of Law. During her first and second summer in law school, Ms. Ellwanger was a law clerk with Andrew, Merritt, Reilly & Smith in Lawrenceville, Georgia where she worked in corporate law, as well as probate and estate planning. In the following summer, Ms. Ellwanger was a Summer Associate with Whelchel and Dunlap in Gainesville, Georgia where she gained experience in both civil and criminal law.
Before attending law school, Ms. Ellwanger graduated from the Women’s College of Brenau University, cum laude, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Legal Studies and Conflict Resolution. She was the recipient of the Brenau Scholar Award and was a member of Gamma Sigma Alpha and Phi Beta Sigma Honor Societies. During her time at Brenau, Ms. Ellwanger was actively involved in the community through the Brenau University Leadership Program.
