Years agonist met a young woman from Canada who was told she'd have to wait ten months for her shoulder surgery . It was very painful so she came here ( to Florida) to have the surgery immediately.

Problem is, the superabundance of health insurance actually runs up costs as it decreases competition. It also increases bureaucracy which is another increase on cost and it makes you pay for what you don't need while refusing to cover what you do.

I’m in the US, and I have to wait for months to see specialists and for surgeries regardless of how much I pay, and I have great insurance that I pay $$$ for. I just had to wait 3 months to see a dermatologist for an incredibly uncomfortable condition, 4 months to see a GI dr. Unbelievable.

I had longer wait times in the US than in Germany. Too many folks here have to choose between keeping a job and taking sick leave, between having a surgery or treatment plan and selling their house, between preventative care and living without insurance. There certainly is a reason why the US has lower living expectancy than most other developed countries. One reason is that folks simply can’t afford the medical bills. Healthcare is for the rich.

I'm in N.Ireland UK & I had a private room in a brand newly built ward in the hospital for 2 days & I was only in with a shattered arm, waiting for an operation to get metal plates in it.

Our healthcare is way too expensive. Something has to be done to lower the cost.

Very smart people can be very dead wrong. Any health care system in Western Europe deals with emergencies.

America: where a uneducated insurance guy decides your treatment. The Hippocratic Oath is a joke over there.

Last week my kid hit her head pretty bad, saturday, 2 closest hospitals were closed, we had to drive 40km to find a hospital thats open, i live 15 km from our capitals hospital but "im not in that area" so i have to go trough 2 citys to one that has open hospital. We were the only ones on the waiting room and had to wait 6h.... about 15 peopple came and left without care becouse they didint want to wait anymore. 6h and we were the first to call. That was the last time i took my kids to public hospital... im paying shit ton of taxes and im forced to pay private hospital if i want care when its actually needed. AND i pay a ton on health insurence if i/my kids get sick for a long time its not free. Welcome to finland, where free healthcare means 6h wait for aspirin and rest of it costs.

America has the best healthcare money can buy. Too bad few have that kind of money.

I grew up going to the federal Indian hospital. I use VA healthcare now. I’ve seen what it looks like applied to a small part of the population and it’s horrible. A guy that I met at the VA had lung cancer and they told him that it wasn’t severe enough yet to get treatment.

here in Chile we got Public Health System and it sucks! infraestructure is poor, is undersupplied, doctors and nurses are constantly on strike because they don't get paid what they were promised by the government, there's ridiculously long waiting lists, there's no security on the hospitals, etc. Private hospitals work fine, even though they are expensive. Another factor to have in mind is the amount of people that fill the hospitals for no other reason than their own wrong doings, people don't take care of themselves and then they expect everybody else to pay for it.

private hospitals in some other countries actually provide significantly better care than hospitals in the US. Medical tourism is a big industry because it provides people with more of a free-market than we have in the US and provides better care for a lower cost.

America has the best doctors, the best medical facilities yet the they don’t even rate in the top 15 countries - none of which require you to pay. What a racket.

Was in the emergency room 10 hours with my 6 year old last week. 7:30pm to 5:30 am before they admitted him. Emergency rooms make me think of what universal healthcare will look like… appointment at 10am they will see you at 1pm as long as you check in early. They will tell you you need an operation and you will die waiting

1 hour in a private room cost me 5k. I didn't ask for a private room. It is not what I wanted. I'm all for the free market but it just doesn't work in an emergency situation. There is no time to pick and choose like buying a car.

So true. In a small city in America the hospital had a beautifull white grand piano in the mess hall which was huuuuge. In Spain the hospital in the 3rd largest city has a mess hall that is the size of 3 classrooms and thats it.
American hospitals had 10 years ago hydro aclohol gel on every corner of the hallways. In Spain they just got them because of covid and they aren"t even bolted to the walls or quality.
The differece behind people working to pay money and investing their money in what they deem important is So SO great. Free healthcare at the end of the day creates worse healthcare. Same goes for colleges.

It's nice, sure. But there's also crappy hospitals and colleges for free in America. Yeah in Spain the free hospitals are better than the free hospitals in the U.S. but private healthcare in america is just way beyond better than public and private healthcare in Spain
And that is a fact. And it's because of economics and competition and money
