Finding X Bar in Statistics - How to calculate X Bar. Hello guys and welcome to another video. In this video, we will be calculating X Bar. Now you may be asking yourself, “What is X-bar?” X-Bar is a symbol used to represent a sample mean used to estimate the true population parameter. Lets take this example. A company is trying to understand what the true population parameter is based off of these values. To calculate X-bar, we must find the average of these values. After adding all of our values up, you will get 108. We take this 108 and divide it by N or 6 in the case and we come up with 18. We take this 108 and divide it by N or 6 and come up with 18. X Bar is equal to 18.

If X~N(10, 4), X bar = (X1+X2+X3)/3; what’s var (X bar - X3)? If I compute var (X bar) + Var (X3)=4/3+4=16/3. But if I simplify X bar - X3 to (X1+X2-2X3)/3, then the variance becomes (4+4+4*4)/9=8/3. How come they are different? Thanks for your help!

I bet you meant, find the SUM of X and then divide them by the total number of samples. Xbar = Average or Mean
