interpretation time: I think this song is about knowing what a person has done to you and how awful they are but still convincing yourself you love them even though you expect the same results; them breaking your heart. Rhe "dirty shoes" represent the unkind treatment they are breaking Mitski's heart with, considering shoes in a washing machine can break the washing machine.
