The egg industry was sued for price gauging last year and they had to pay up. Prices should be regulated, the USA needs to also crack down on monopolies/conglomerates that have been abusing the system for 50 years.

Republicans: "Democrats have no plans to fix high food costs and inflation."
Democrats: "here is our plan, fix prices."
Republicans: "NO NOT LIKE THAT." *Incoherent screaming*

*Republicans:* inflation is the problem
*Democrats:* let’s stop pricing gouging
*Republicans:* no ☺️

Gotta love how in the same statement Ben says theres no shortage of food in the United States, then says groceries are getting more expensive because of supply and demand

Australia has literally passed passed price gouging legislation after the pandemic... Hadn't killed stock prices...

I always love how these commentators say “They won’t just randomly raise prices”. You’re right they won’t. They’ll do it to increase profits! How idiotic an argument

Seeing the Republicans slowly descend into madness since the candidate-swap amuses me more than I thought it would

Ben Shapiro states that we have more food than ever, but also saying that price control won't do anything, because the only thing that affects prices supply and demand. If supply is super high, then why aren't the prices low? Why has the excess and the amount of extra food that the U.S. has not caused prices to go lower, Ben?

He's using economic principles to try to prove his point, but then expects his entire audience to be stupid enough to not actually know how those affect each other.

The actual farmers around me have to work over an hour to afford a single box of berries that took them 5 mins to pick and pack

The idea that grocery chains don’t price gouge is laughable. In Australia, our two biggest chains, Woolworths and Coles, have long been found to price gouge and post record profits year after year. The Woolies CEO resigned after a disastrous interview where he basically admitted this - and still got a $25 million payout for his services. Sure, inflation does play a role. But if I, a single man, need to spend over $100 for weekly groceries then there is a serious problem with the system.

“It’ll create a higher demand by lowering prices” that’s the freaking point, Ben. Let the people eat. 😂

Price gouging: "High egg prices send profits at largest US producer soaring more than 700%
Mar 29, 2023"

Lost previous case of price gouging: "A US jury has ordered egg producers, including industry giant Cal-Maine Foods, to pay $17.7m in damages to a number of food manufacturing companies after being found guilty in a long-running price-gouging lawsuit. Under federal law that amount will be tripled to around $53m. Dec 4, 2023"

Being sued by Texas, in a separate price gouging case: "Egg Pricing Case Going Forward; Petition for Review at Texas Supreme Court
Jan 8, 2023 — The State of Texas claims that Cal-Maine Foods illegally charged excessive prices for eggs during the Covid-19 pandemic."

Is Texas cmmnst?

Grocery stores have 1-2% profit margins but move a LOOOOT of product. Costco, one of the best chains for workers, still makes over a billion in profit every year, which is only about 2% profit.

Saying that the grocery industry is very competitive is pretty wild when you know that half the things you see on shelves are own by the same 5 corps

15:30 So let me get this straight:

- Everyone gets $10
- Nothing changes about cost of production
- Stores raise prices by $10 anyway, taking the extra wealth the people were given despite it not costing $10 more to produce the thing they're buying
- "Price gouging is not real!"

Who wrote that? Did he fire them? He better have.

Ben : "The only purpose of a corporation is to seek profit, that's how capitalism work."

Also Ben : "Corporation are not greedy, they're only making a razor thin profit. They won't increase price just to increase profit. "
