Title: Youth Engagement in Planning and Urban Design
Presenter: Adam Rosa, BUP '00
Length: 12 minutes

Children inherit the results of planning and design decisions that are made for their communities, but their voices are rarely heard during the process of making those decisions. The lack of effective participation and engagement, especially of youth, can help amplify social tension and unrest. This session will focus on the utilization of tools for youth engagement and community impact in neighborhood planning. When youth become active, they can catalyze positive change in the settings in which they live.

This is accomplished through a variety of techniques including informal storytelling, youth design charrettes, image surveying, and working with kids to lead and facilitate community meetings. Youth participation energizes the process while bringing a unique perspective to the opportunities of the neighborhood.

Adam is Principal and Founder at COLLABO Planning + Design.
