If anybody is wondering what’s happening or does not understand this Boiler Room set, here is something you might wanna know before hand.

The Sonideros started way back, around the 50’s-60’s.
in different parts of Mexico City, initially as some type of “Block Party”
The function of the Dj is not to “mix” songs as in a club but to also entertain the public and send greetings by request (as you can see the guy on the right side of Don Ramón is holding a phone with the requests from different people.)

There are multiple types of sonideros ranging from Tropical Music, salsa-cumbias, to rock music.

The sonideros are always evolving but maintaining it’s roots as a party, later in the 80-90’s the high energy movement started to take more relevance and shifting to electronic music.

Swapping from using just radios or vinyl players to the current digital players as years went by.
You could say this paved the way for the Disc jockey movement before it was even a thing.

Being different from the origins of Hip-Hop and how the electronic music started, it was not intended for Clubs, but for parties with neighbors, family and friends on your block or yard.

So, welcome to our block :)

My dad used to listen to Changa Mix tapes. I thought it was the most annoying thing ever. Hearing Changa every 10 seconds not being able to hear the songs without a Changa interruption, the shout outs to people I would never meet. None of it made sense to me. Then it slowly grew on me. I memorized all the times Changa would break the mix and all the different Changa sounds, I would shout out the strangers, I started adding my own shout outs. It became my favorite thing to listen to on the weekends. Seeing them with their own boiler room is unreal.

Boiler Room solo falta PolyMarch
