Yearning

Today, as I sat with my fingers poised on my keyboard, I suddenly felt a deep longing, a deep sense of yearning. At first, it was sundry emotions and mixed up feelings- peace, emptiness, warmth, tranquility, pain and melancholy, all of which fused and coalesced into this short piece here. But as the music led me, I realized how much we go through each day of our lives as humans, yearning. We yearn for peace, we yearn for love, we yearn for fulfilment, we yearn for safety, we yearn for prosperity. Which then made me wonder how I could feel so many divergent emotions at the same time. I mean, how could someone feel peace and emptiness or pain and warmth simultaneously?

It was then that it dawned on me that the truth lies in my faith in my Lord, and the yearning I felt was a yearning for Him. What's more is, as I could feel this emptiness, He was slowly filling me up with His love. The yearning could never end there, because one taste of Him is never enough. The sweet irony is this- I could never have enough of Him, even though He is enough for me.

And as I was rendered defenseless by His love, I was reminded for the millionth time in my life that only He can truly satisfy, and I will always yearn for Him.

This is my prayer today, that all of us find what our hearts yearn for.
To my Christian friends, may Jesus be the yearning of our hearts, because He and only He can truly satisfy.
