The shrunken heads were a way of binding souls to this world so they could not pass to the afterworld, most people will think jacks mum must’ve done something to deserve this punishment, but I always assumed it was so her soul would forever be with him

goddamn what a good line. For pirates, freedom is all. And Jack speaks to that "That's the trick isnt it? To survive?" which shows that selfish yet basic instinct to survive. And his father's response is so full of experience, yet still rooted in the same idea of freedom and self preservation; it's not some moralizing platitude like "no the trick is to find love or happiness", its "the trick isnt living forver. Its living with yourself forever" which shows that intersection between self preservation and a basic level of conscience or empathy.

Man the writing, especially the one liners like that, *could* really slap sometimes, even if the whole plot wasnt quite as consistent.

Oh I get it now.. when Jack was in Davey Jones locker he had to live with multiple versions of himself

That line goes hard as fuck though when you think about it. Jack was within arms reach of immortality several times, but turned it down because he knew that he wouldn’t be able to live with himself for what it took to get it. For example, when he let Will stab the heart instead, allowing Will to be immortal instead.

I always like to think that Teague is genuinely so feared by other pirates that they simply refuse to even take him on. Hence why he is never seen in the films

I imagine Teague actually did drink from the fountain or is some form of human cage for a sea god, seeing as how he is greatly respected yet equally feared by all of the Pirate Lords, who mind you each have an army by their side. His dad has an uncanny ability to appear and dissappear when convenient to Jack and has his prescence rarely noted except when he is announced or makes himself known, like when Barbossa called his name or when he expressed his anger towards the thought of the Lords not keeping to the code.
