Crafting a Libretto, with Jocelyn Hagen

I decided to create a video to show my process for creating a libretto for a larger work. This piece, called HERE I AM, was commissioned by True Concord Voices & Orchestra and will be composed for SATB choir, soprano soloist, treble choir, and orchestra, with narrations and video projections.

HERE I AM is inspired by the anniversary of the fight for women’s suffrage, but it digs much deeper. This 25-minute work will celebrate the lives of influential women from all over the world, including many suffragists, abolitionists, writers, composers, and other activists. Crafting this libretto has been an incredible process and the resulting story is deeply meaningful to me as an artist who fought for my voice.
