In this video, I compare the Intel NUC to a 10 year old Pentium 4 tower (3.0Ghz, 1.5GB RAM, 7200 rpm HD). I compare the energy usage (Kill A Watt) and performance (Handbrake encoding). This is an informal comparison but it give you an idea of the changes that have occurred in the last 10 years.

The NUC build is as follows:
Intel NUC: Core i5, D54250WYKH1 (Amazon Affiliate)

Kingston Technology KVR16LS11/8 8GB 1600MHz DDR3L (PC3-12800) 1.35V Non-ECC CL11 SODIMM Intel Laptop Memory (Amazon Affiliate)

Intel 7260HMW Wireless Card (Amazon Affiliate)

Samsung EVO SATA III SSD (Amazon Affiliate)

P3 International P4460 Kill A Watt EZ Electricity Usage Monitor (Amazon Affiliate)

Nice comparison! Never had a p4 but I'm all for low power, efficient machines such as a NUC or Raspberry Pi 😀

This is great! I've ordered a NUC i3 and will bite the bullet and go back to Linux after a 25 year absence (I started on Unix). I hope to abandon Bill Gates' castle-built-on-sand forever.

This video was the Pentium 4's last job. It has been dropped off at a recycler. I'm glad I won't have to step over it anymore.
