Europe has been in Africa's doorstep but never really cared about the continent. What's worse is that it colonized and divided the continent amongst themselves and pilfered lots of resources.

When the US Foreign Secretary Rex Tillerson was in Africa to warn African nations against working with China, he landed in an airport in Africa built by China, and then he traveled on a road built by China to the city, and he arrived at a hall built by China to give the speech. And finally he told the people: “Do not work with China”.

When African countries deal with China, they get tangible assets. When Africa countries deal with the West, they remain on paper. And if the country has oil, the IMF and World Bank would come can give the loan, and Exxon/BP/Shell would take the oil.

How laughable! At the time when China was still struggling to develop its own internal economy, wealthy European countries did not even bother to help improve Africa's infrastructure. Now that after learning China was going to lend Africa a good helping hand in all its development, these European countries suddenly wanted to jump in to help. So, which one really is "A friend in need is a friend indeed"?

Africa should be very thankful of china, not just because of the investment but mostly because in doing so they changed Europe's attitude and policies towards Africa for the better.

The problem with the way Europe approaches it's relationship with Africa is due to fear of how china and Africa have been relating which is mutually beneficial ... Eu and the US had a head start but they never took Africa seriously in the first place the game was always Rigged against Africa when it comes to Europe . Unless this mentality changes Africa will always distrust the west.

In the end China is a very down to earth country, they want to do serious business, and of course maybe they also want your "friendship"( some political support and shit), but if you don't want their deal, they will leave you in peace, no bombing, no regime overthrow, and most importantly they treat africans fairly, the chinese don't come to africa like they are the savior

Europe always wants to interfere other countries internal affairs like USA but they don't want to help them.

Tbh, I think another issue between europe and Africa is that the EU treats Africa as a "poor man" and is always talking about aid meamwhile China somewhat treats Africa as a equal partner. However China so dosnt care even fund dictatorial goverments loans without checking if they are able to pay and take controll of African infrastructure or force them to give up mines...

For decades, the west has abandoned Africa, considering it a basket case continent, an empty house that the west has looted till nothing left, a beggar continent that the west "give charity" to make the west feel good. That large continent has been waiting for a century for an infrastructure revolution to open up the continent and enable Africans participate properly in the world economy . China and India were the World’s richest economies for Centuries due to free trade, until the British Empire came along with their War Ships and Drugs 200 years ago. India and China were both defeated and colonised into poverty also did the same to Africa.

Recall that this is the same excuse Western leaders have repeatedly used to justify their lack of commitment to restructure debts for African countries. this is a distraction

Many African countries with the highest public debt burdens actually have very little loan exposures to the Chinese.
