Infact, the name "Sun Wukong" translates to *Sun Goku* in japanese.
In the original dragon ball that began airing in 1986, Kid Goku had the flying nimbus and a power pole which could become big just like Wukong's pole. He also had a tail like Wukong. It shows the heavy inspirations from journey to the west novel.
