What is a cenote? Cenotes are natural sinkholes in the ground. There are over 6000 cenotes in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. The Mayas used cenotes for ceremonies and sacrificial offerings.

Where does the word "cenote" come from?
Why are cenotes so clear?
Why are cenotes fresh water instead of salt water?

Find out that and more in this video!

You should also have a warning that swimming in cenotes is dangerous as the voids go underground and people can get trapped. ;)
