Grizzly G9729 Metal Lathe Review

My honest long term opinion on the plus and minus of the Grizzly G9729 metal lathe. in general a great tool for intermittent light commercial work. Not really suited for full time production but perfect for my needs. Super buy for the price. four star review

Curious why you don't make your own half nuts?

Could you machine a new half nut made of a more durable metal so you don't have to spend $100 every 18 months?

I'm looking at buying a used one of these. The only concern I have is how much space it will take up in my garage. Can you tell me how far the edge of the machine to the wall is? Grizzly seems to say it's 40", which seems to be awfully wide... Thanks!

son bought a Craftex B2229 the other day, it works fine and all we had to change the half nut as well, we will goahead and clean up the keyway slot on the lead screw, what was your procedure to fix yours so half nut last longer, thanks

The modifications you made, did you have to make those because of the kind of work you do? Or did you just have to fix stuff because of poor craftsmanship. I make knives and I've been wanting something like this for a long time. But I'm afraid to by something that's not ready to work right out of the box. I don't know if your from Mn. but my wifes family is from Glenwood.

I obviously don't know but I thought Grizzly was an Indian company from India but maybe it is and they get all the stuff made in China I don't know but I thought they were India but I'm sure this man knows a lot more than I do about it either way like you said most things made in China

I haven't received mine yet but I will need to move it down my basement. Can you tell me if the mill head is easy to dismount from the lathe (to reduce the overall weight) ?

can you put a 31″ round stock in it to cut a barrel piece to length as it says it's 31" between centers?
