"Saratzinos" part II
Σαρατζηνός- #Medieval #cyprus acritic lyrics. Written in the language of Medieval Greece, the Acritic songs depict the courageous feats (Greek: ανδραγαθίες) of ἀκρίτες ("frontiersmen"), bold warriors residing near the Arab frontiers, actively participating in ceaseless confrontations against the adversary. The continuous state of war in the area, along with frequent clashes with the Arabs, prompted poets to document stories of chivalrous excellence. This was a reaction to a society hungry for information or narratives, whether grounded in reality or fantasy, elucidating the exploits fueled by enemy invasions or praising the martial valor of their fellow countrymen who thwarted the invaders. The fate of the local population, often grappling with the aftermath of invasions and enduring the pain of losing family members, stands as a prominent theme.
My arrangement is based on a musical composition of Cypriot composer Michalis Christodoulidis.
