The Mueller report continues to generate legal debate. Several hundred former federal prosecutors published a statement this week asserting that President Trump would have been charged with obstruction of justice, were he not the sitting president. William Brangham talks to Paul Rosenzweig, who worked with independent counsel Kenneth Starr on the Whitewater investigation of President Bill Clinton.

The worse excuse that a president can't be indicted because it would interfere with their ability to govern is ridiculous. The very reason we have a line of succession is to deal with the eventuality that the president is in some way incapacitated or otherwise not able to execute the office of president. Are we saying the vice president can't fill the role of president while the president handles legal matters that may complicate his presidency. What crime would be sufficient for the president to be prosecuted for? Are we saying as a nation of laws that the president is immune and above the law? What about treason. If the president were to commit treason, is the president immune? Would we want such a person to hold office who has a foreign adversary's interests ahead of his own country to maintain control of the US military and all the codes and top secret information? Does such a person carry the risk of compromising and endangering our troops? And worst, just imagine the precedent this is setting for future presidents.

Look at the words Mueller evoked in the closing of his report: "...no one is above the law..."; these words evoke Archibald Cox and the same words he uttered with the Saturday Night Massacre... Trumpster had best take note of the context of those closing words.

But if lawmakers do find the president worthy of a criminal indictment (but for which they can't because he's the president), aren't they not then obligated to impeach?

So all these former prosecutors read the report prior to signing this statement? There's usually a pretty good reason people are FORMER anything, chances are they had no business in their former positions.
