One tip I'd like to share here: While the green zone is the optimal area, it's usually best to keep the mark as low in the green zone as possible. This is because the more 'energetic' the rock is, the further the pieces fly when it breaks. While this isn't as important on planet surfaces thanks to gravity, it's extremely helpful when breaking asteroids.

Thanks, that was a great summary. Concise but explained everything a beginner would want to know. Only thing I can think of that would be good to mention as well: mining in the ROC pretty much requires Pembroke armour. I'm a new miner myself, but have quickly learned that lesson. :)

Hur L2 is also a refinery location. All L1’s and Hur L2. I’ve found since using the Lancet mining head on asteroids I get about 35 - 45 ms away from asteroids and I see hand mineables appear. So I always keep a rucksack or Pembroke/Novikov armor on and mine the hand mineables first and then the asteroid. Though usually the hadanite is to large for hand mining.

Great vid as usual!

This is the same place I go but only really pick up stuff with Quantanium in it. Picking up the largest percentage Quantanium rocks first and the smallest amount last.

But that’s me. I totally agree with picking up the other stuff if you find a nice chunk of it.

I use the Helix 2 and two Lancet MH2 lasers for the Mole and a Lancet MH1 for the Prospector.

I’m still experimenting with consumables and will continue to do so in the upcoming update.

For the 3.12 & 3.13 PTU - you can mine Quantainium around HUR-L3 and refine at CRU-L1 (you'll get about 300k AUEC for the fully loaded Prospector).

Sent this off to a new friend getting into the game.

For new mining that wants to refine and sell with cargo running: I say start with a area that has rocks to mine and a refinary in one location so you dont need to jump, JUST to get use to how things work so you make more profit even with rookie mistakes and do demotivate yourself from jumping too much or too far.

Ensure you have a cargo runner that has 95pcu space or more so you dont end up with refined stuff that you cant transport. I was lucky that i got myself a connie.

A great video as always! Tho it might've been helpful to mention the difference in scanning capability between certain ships.
Became very prevalent to me when I went ROC mining in the Valkyrie, which can only detect hand-mineable nodes from up to 1 km away. While the Cutlass Red or scanning ships like the Terrapin can detect these deposits from *much* further away.

Id love to join you on that MOLE, two or more people on board really makes it a lot more quick and interesting, you end up earning more, even taking into account splitting the profits.

5:08 - You did not mention that you can scan the contents with holding left mouse in scanning mode while aiming at the rock.
Also works for ships to add additional intel

Great Guide! Would have been nice to see comparism between the 9 refining modes as a chart.

The mining mechanic sounds like it could make good use of the slider controls I've seen on some high end control panel peripherals

I love this video, it's very informative and nicely made! I just have one question, though. If you were one undisputed Grand Master of ANYTHING, what would it be? Thanks again!

Good guide because most of the aspects will be timeless, regardless of the game's patch. There are some "nuances" that will change the game play for next patch 3.13. New HUD aspects and new add-ons for use. The idea of sub-components now come inplay (little underwhelming at this point in the PTU). The most import thing will be the repair of the refinery bug that will make mining/refining/selling more enjoyable again. The ROC mining remains a great earning route.
