Not true. Population of Meru town is 240, 900 and population of Kitale 162, 174 just random picks. Stop copy pasting unverified Wikipedia articles.

Other than population and administrative importance, economic activities and diversity are parameters to consider. For economic vibrancy, Naivasha is ahead of Kisii and Kakamega. Note that Embu, Meru, Nyeri, Kericho, Narok are in this list.

Population will never determine about a town or city. But infrastructures, buildings more so big and many story buildings ( out look) business circulation ( cash & investments) l.e e.g how many banks, real estate, mortgages, industries, companies, hotels, malls, super markets, institutions etc anywhere this is 1.Nairobi 2.Mombasa 3.kisumu 4.Nakuru 5.Eldoret 6.kisii 7.Thika 8. Meru 9.Malindi 10.Nyeri N/B in reality Nairobi (should include upto Kitengela, juja to Kenyatta road kabete and part of kiambu which is next to Nairobi that means Siokimau, Ngong etc and there’s should be forums to strict bad places like majengo which means Esili and kamukunji should meet with good story buildings and improve on estate next to town like city stadium, Ngara etc then Nairobi will big the best city in Africa ( note Nakuru beats kisumu on estates and kisii beats Eldoret on estates to the reality be careful with any town that could not be on this of many my list 20years back which means it grows faster)
