The far-left Syriza party won Greece's general election on Sunday and formed an anti-austerity governing coalition that will have a comfortable majority in a new parliament. Syriza leader Alexis Tsipras has vowed to renegotiate Greece's bailout, worth €240bn (£179bn; $268bn), to end Greece's "humiliation and pain". Here's a quick look at the young, charismatic leader.

Syriza is not communist or far left. Its left. The Greek communist party. KKE is as much hostile against syriza as is the far fight Golden dawn and new democracy parties.

I am from Romania we had too 25% salary cuts in 2010 we had very bad days but we did everything right cooperating with the E.U. and our economy is one of the fastest growing emerging economies in Europe, a communist party tried since 2010 to regain power, but we are not fucking stupid we felt the worse of communism.Greece will regret this

...Even if Greece were to leave the euro zone, it would still remain a member of the EU, meaning Putin or Xi Jinping would then have a voice in Europe and in NATO. His opposition to further sanctions against Russia shows that Tsipras has no scruples on the issue.

Tsipras is right about one thing, the present situation cannot continue. But if he thinks he can make the country's creditors simply cancel a large part of the debt and accept Greece reneging on the conditions of the bailout, he is living in wonderland. It's not like Germany is their only creditor, they only hold 27% of the debt, what about the poorer members of the Eurozone (and contributors to the IMF) who have stepped up to help Greece; do they deserve to lose their money? If the creditors are going to lose, Greece must also share the price for that. There is no easy option available here but ultimately the only way out of this mess is for Greece to default and leave the Euro. It will still be devastating in the short to medium term, but at least there will be a way back for them, if they have freedom from their debt and control of their own currency, and can boost tourism and foreign investment through a cheap drachma.

"Congratulations to Mr. Alexis Tsipras who won the Greek parliamentary elections, reminding politicians that economy must serve people and citizens, and not the contrary."

Syriza didn't win the election because their platform is great, it's just because Greece's austerity is unpopular.

They never had to enter the eurozone in the first place! If people are in direstraits they elect anything that is popular and against the government who is guilty in their eyes.
Fact is that greece created the mess by themselves and not paying back the money other european taxpayers worked for is no solution to a happy greece EU relationship.
In the end they are probably not even pay back half the money what they own the rest of the EU and that can not be explained to other countries who are struggling themselves.
Its easy for a young charismatic figure to shout things people like to hear, i wish him luck and wisdom to solve the problems greece is facing, because this feel of victory not lasts for long and than he has to run this bankrupt country and where is he going to loan new money when he needs it?EU i doubt it.His only masterplan is to say no to the EU who helped his country and to create government jobs.Where is your economy to support your government jobs?I think future investers have serious questions regarding greece.I feel sorry for the normal greek who is trying to make a living because of their leaders.

...This means that Germany must display forbearance. Germans have been forgiven for so much in their own history that they should also be capable of forgiving others. Despite mistakes made by the Greeks, solidarity remains the correct course.
