Fumed and Reactive Stained Prefinished Hardwood Flooring

Our Cali Hardwoods floors are designed to be completely unique and really play up the wood’s natural beauty. To this end, some styles have been treated with reactive staining or fuming.

Reactive staining uses a water-based formula that responds to tannins in the wood… playing up certain colors... and giving the timber a more weathered, rustic character.
Fuming involves putting planks into an enclosed chamber with ammonia. This gas draws the wood’s tannins to the surface, giving it a darker color and highlighting the grain pattern.
Both techniques are completely safe for your home, and help to accentuate the wood’s knots, mineral streaks, and other special visual intricacies.
