In January last year, the French university Paris 8, decided to drop Adobe's Photoshop and adopt Krita instead... worth a look.

I feel bad that I've been using GIMP for 5+ years and I NEVER knew about single-window mode. I never did like the split windows.

I was a 'hobby' user of photoshop and very happy with my 'paid for' software. However I have abandoned it as renting it doesn't match my occasional use - what a damn shame. But if I am honest the experience has gifted me a wonderful experience! GIMP delivers what I want, it does it well, and any little niggles are trivial. Software developers might want to consider that Adobe's move prompted me to explore other 'Free to use' software. For example: Network analysis software (Gephi), Text editor (Sublime Text), Brainstorming (FreePlane), Document production (TeXstudio/LaTeX) instead of Word etc etc. Because of Adobe I have just discovered a whole world of wonderful, productive, and most importantly 'standard' software - and it costs nothing. Am I missing something? Actually not. Colleagues are surprised and impressed, and doing the same.

I really appreciate these videos very much! It is nice to see so many very close to Photoshop alternatives, there is still a learning curve there if you are new to photo editing but it is more about understanding the nomenclature and the process. As you know I am a big photoshop fan but, faced with cost issues and reservations about the cloud I have been satisfied with using Adobe Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements. These are two platforms worth consideration that have free one month trials and purchase prices around $100.00 US dollar if you look around for them. Elements is really about 90% of what photoshop is (You wouldn't expect them to make two totally different things, it is simpler to just strip one down a bit). The thing with elements also is that some of the photoshop shortfallings have workarounds, some are as simple as knowing the undocumented hot keys that bloggers have discovered. For example Elements has no folders to help you keep organized in the layers panels, however shortcut (windows)shift+ctrl+alt+e will group together all "seen" layers and create a new layer that has your desired effects all without flattening the image! I just rename that layer and close the eyes on the ones that created it and presto! The program will also except with some tweaking downloaded brushes, fonts, mats and other such objects. There are a few folks on the web who I am under their wing on many things like this. Another alternative would be plug ins there are many to choose from. Elements lacks the curves adjustment ease that Photoshop has but still has an alternative somewhat less flexible curves adjustment. Dealing with vector graphics is not a high point in elements it has to simplify everything before changes are made and creating a vector graphic is not what elements dose very well. Again, thank you Chris I appreciate this marvelous video and and well pleased to see all the available alternatives (might as well say clones!!! LOL)

I appreciate all you do!

Been using Paint.net for years, such a simple and nice program. Can't wait to see what video editing software you're going to be showcasing in your next video.
Would you consider doing a video like this to showcase audio-editing software sometime in the future? Only one I can think of now is Audacity, but it would be nice to get an in-depth view of the editor.
Cheers!

I use some Autodesk products and they are going down the same road everything seems to be going to a subscription based payment.
I am not a big fan of this but it is very affordable for what I need which is CAD/CAM.
Thank you for all the great videos!

Just wondering: I saw Resolve on your desktop, and is that what you use to edit?

Hi thank you for the informations you provided with us. My question is about picture resizing. When I magnify a photo or a picture in size, it gets blurry. Is there any application or program to eliminate this problem? Thank you.
