King Arthur is right, he was given false prophesies by Merlin and was sent on a Quest he could not fullfill. He got corrupted by righteousness and lost everything he loved to his once friend Lancelot and thats why he is blaming Merlin

I wonder how powerful is merlin the only signs we have is that he made the hat that he's been communicating inside a tree of how long and he can appear to travel between dimensions with ease like he did with the Snow Queen

well, at least Merlin isn't the one of the iconic magical figures who gets his character screwed up on the show, the way both Blue Fairy and worse Glinda did!

I feel like when they introduced Merlin ot was sipposed to be the end of the series and finding somehow to break the curse of the Dark One Dagger. Since he is the most powerful Wizard alive and most skilled. So he has the chops to break it. And was going to kinda restore some things that Regina and Rumple did. But by this point they saw that since the series is doing so well lets just turn it into a marketing tool hence adding Disney Characters instead of Just story book character in general. And the Constant Curse, after Curse....*sigh*....after curse.
