Whenever my grandmother talks about her childhood she includes her visit to the minar and inside it

Yes so true I remember visiting Qutub Minar in the year 2015 and was not allowed to climb up the minar...to which my grandfather(nana ji) claimed that the last time he visited the tourists were allowed to go to upstairs... It's 2024 my grandfather has passed away I really miss him, I loved him a lot and I'll always love him

School kids were inside it as well. One of our distant relative lost her 2 sons, they were on a school picnic.

From 🇸🇬 Singapore. A Teacher i knew lost her teenage daughter who was on holiday in India... in this stampede mentioned here... Sad...the teacher who was always bubbly was never the same again... she passed away a few years later...sad.

At first I thought that they can reopen it again but with like, only 9-10 people entering at once not more than that. Fining anyone who doesn't co-operate.
But then I remembered this is India :)

If we apply same logic for Eiffel Tower then French government should ban the entry for entering in Eiffel Tower but no they have made facilities around it so people can enjoy it's beauty with less danger

I have heard in that crowd was a group of school children on their visit to monument from the school's side. And this horrible incident became worse because of that.

there is a video on youtube showing a bunch of people reaching the top and it's quite windy up there, the video may have been shot in the late 2000s or early 2010s

Interesting story. This was probably 2002. I was a little kid. We had gone on a school trip to the Qutub Minar. When it was time for us to walk around, 2-3 of us were with a teacher. A worker at thw complex just so happened to have work at the Minar. He unlocked the door and let us have a look from the inside. We got to see the stairs as well. We heard the story of why we could go up the stairs from the worker.
Bonus. We got to touch the iron pillar on that trip as well.

For a similar reason, it's no longer allowed to go up anna tower in Chennai

We cant go inside the Minar but in old Bollywood movie (Yere Ghar ke Samne), Nutan and Dev Anand have shot a whole song on its staircase. We can watch the song n imagine what the inside must be like. The song is Dil ka Bhavar kare pukaar, pyar ka raag suno re...

They should instead have like really expensive tickets for people who really wanna see it from the inside. The money can be used to power backup and maintenance

Imagine a stampede inside a claustrophobic tower??? They all collapsed probably on eachother. 50 people on each other. Its crazy.

I know what I have seen there. Temples broken down to ruins, even the idols carved on walls are vandalised on face and hands so that no one can know what was there actually. This was my personal experience as a student that I saw and felt.

Dil ka bhanwar kare pukar song picturised inside Qutub minar gives a nice glimpse of the insides of the Minar

Dev Anand did a very good job by including it in the film : tere ghar ke samne...
its absolutely wonderful to see the monument inside and views from the top

This is the same case with Charminar in Hyderabad as well, before we could climb up all the way to the top but now as many people made it a suicidal spot, it's banned for visitors but luckily, I was born & brought up in old city & my uncle is also in police department, so he made it possible for our family to climb till the top with his connections.

You can see the inside if you send a request to the administrators and ask to go for a documentary so you can share the images with the whole world ❤❤❤❤
