One year we invited our neighbors over (a nice African American family who were our neighbors as long as i could remember), they were empty nesters their kids had just gone to collage. They were very happy and asked if they could bring something so my mom just said you know bring whatever you feel like we have plenty. They showed up with a pan of mac and cheese and it blew my 10 year old mind. I was not a aware you were allowed to have mac and cheese on thanksgiving just because it was never a thing in my family... needless to say now that im an adult we have it every year.

One point on Annee - she really does meant it sincerely to everyone - there is no law of diminishing returns for her

That "I'm so happy you came" is the drunk aunt version of "I love you man"

Short blessing lol #truth. My pastor says the Lord doesn't like lukewarm Christians or supper. We eat that food hot!

I've noticed, not sure how true it is, but from what I've seen in my years ...if you're part Irish, Scottish, English, German, Polish, you take your mashed potatoes very seriously. We make sure our mashed potato skills are perfect at family and holiday gatherings. And I cook for an army, even if an army ain't coming, so we always have left overs of something.

I still use my great grandmother's recipe for mashed potatoes. I've tried tweaking it a few times, but they all failed. Mamaw's recipe can't be beat! And I also still use her potato masher.

You nailed it on the head with the "y'all mashed potatoes is like our fried chicken". It IS that way for us, as I am mainly Irish and our family came over during the potato famine. You did not mess with grandma when she was making them mashed potatoes. She would only skin half of them, add all the stuff you mentioned and heaven help the person try to sneak some in b4 blessing, foot would be inserted to knee!! Great vid man!!

Dude, you’re teaching me so much about black culture (in a good way) through these videos. Differences are not inherently bad. And thanks for the laughs!
